Climate Change 2007: Al's Army

It's after hours at Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado, and the hallways have fallen silent. In one classroom, a handful of high-school science teachers sit at desks usually occupied by biology students. Mark McCaffrey is giving a talk on how to teach global warming, and he points to a PowerPoint projection of the full-Earth shot snapped by Apollo 17 astronauts: the iconic 'blue marble'. "Everything that's ever happened in human history has happened on this fragile little spaceship Earth," he says, almost reverentially.

If this seems familiar, it could be because it sounds like Al Gore. McCaffrey is one of roughly 1,000 volunteers who, since last September, have been through a two-and-a-half-day training session with former US vice-president Gore and his staff in his home town of Nashville, Tennessee. The point is to spread the message of Gore's Oscar-winning documentary on climate change, An Inconvenient Truth.

...

Gore calls the trainees his "cavalry", but a more apt name might be missionaries, given the fervour with which they approach their roles. One volunteer, from Hackett, Arkansas, signs off his e-mails as "Robert McAfee, Climate Change Messenger". Gary Dunham, an independent voter from Sugar Land, Texas, says he had a near-religious conversion while watching An Inconvenient Truth. "I went to see the movie intrigued by what it was about but certainly not believing in the global-warming message," he recalls. "Within 15 minutes I completely changed my viewpoint. I don't think I've heard a political speech that really motivated me to get up and do something since John Kennedy's day." And volunteer Reggie Allen of Keller, Texas, says he sees the need to disseminate the "truth" about global warming as a mission akin to the civil-rights movement... ...

A bit farther down: "The Gore campaign has garnered a near cult-like following."

In the most respected scientific journal on our planet, there is not a peep regarding the dispute over the anthropogenic (human-caused) nature of our climate change.

The minions sent to indoctrinate the masses...This points to the fact that normal scientific process is not good enough. They need to brainwash the kids with this BS to win. You can't win with a false doctrine

” human history”

Human history is not even a nanosecond in the history of Earth. The human species is relatively insignificant in the whole scheme of things. Al and his religious followers have a Narcissist complex.

Al Gore is the Jim Jones of today.

I had this weird image of fat Al and his various dumb-ass followers, frozen face down in an ice field that was stained with purple cool-aid.

2.5 days of training by a Divinity school dropout now qualifies you to be a global climate expert.
Does a month of training qualify you to be a god?

When the temperature at the poles go from -40 degrees to -35 degrees, all the ice will melt.

What kind of ice is that?

BTW, has albore or any of his minions ever been to either pole?

Except for those pesky little LUNAR landings he would be correct. What a macaroon.

I’ve seen the movie (Don’t worry, no carbon credits were bought, it was borrowed). Do these people even know how to debate? It’s a documentary that’s slanted one-way by a MAJOR hypocritter.

All I can say is 7 inches of "Global Warming" fell here in Milwaukee this week and April is shaping up to be the coldest month on record.....

Oh yea, and they had all kinds of (10+ inches) of Global Warming fall in the upstate New York area yesterday and Colorado is expected to get some Global Warming in their area too.

This is entirely typical of late 20th and 21st century politics -- politics that combines our wildly excessive communication capabilities with two great flaws in human nature: the certainty that something bad is going to happen because of something we've done or are doing (mass hysteria); and the desire to shut it all out as too big and too complicated and just deal with our day to day lives (coccooning).

The politics that works these days are 1. focusing on those tiny small-bore issues that really are of no particular consequence in the grand scope of things (the day-care crisis, the prescription drug crisis, the race crisis, the minimum wage crisis, the gap between rich and poor and so forth, and 2. Demagoguing like hell on made-up issues of such size and scope that you can't be blamed for the consequences -- if Shazaam! they happen to be real after all and you really didn't do anything about them, just demagogued them.

And those are exactly the politics of the Democrats -- and Al Gore's corner is to be the Obi Wan Kenobi of the made up crisis. Politicking on these things means you don't have spend your time on matters of real consequence (like a society, loose term there, that is trying its best to destroy your society), that you could do something about if you exerted yourself, that are difficult and trying -- and for which you will be eventually held accountable if you fail.

I know someone who is at one of Al’s conversion meetings this week. I can’t wait til he comes back and tells me all the things that humans do to kill off the earth. This guy is a former NASA scientist also...
