Damn! Will be on Fox today with Neil Cavuto.
It’s not a good thing, sure, but every lymphoma is not the same. I wish both your step mom and Fred Thompson well.
Great reminder and much more the type of post I expect from Freepers on threads such as these, regardless of the political side the subject is on.
Prayers for him and the family.
And yes, he’s out of the race.
Sad.
Didn’t Paul Tsongas have this?
Bless Fred.
WASHINGTON - Republican Fred Thompson, the actor-politician who is considering a bid for president, said Wednesday he has lymphoma, a form of cancer.
In an interview with Fox News, the former Tennessee senator said he is in remission and the diagnosis shouldn't affect his life expectancy.
Thompson, 64, told Fox News Channel's Neil Cavuto that he has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, but hasn't been ill or had any symptoms.
"I am in remission and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the future," the Republican said in a statement to Fox.
Lymphoma is an immune-system cancer that strikes more than 71,000 Americans a year. The vast majority have the non-Hodgkin's form of lymphoma, a term that encompasses more than 30 different subtypes of the disease.
Some of these subtypes are termed "indolent," meaning they typically respond well to treatment patients often go into remission for long periods, but the disease is not cured and may need to be battled back again periodically.
The former senator is an actor who has played many roles, including president of the United States, director of the CIA, an admiral and currently, a tough district attorney on NBC's "Law & Order."
Aw, sheet!
Okay, I apologise for jumping to conclusions! I saw the deletes, but not what had been previously there before they were deleted, and assumed that they were gone for the same reason they’d have been gone from Little Green Footballs.
Interestingly, I have no doubt at all about Thompson being able to put forth a successful campaign, if he chooses to do so. Money won't be a problem IMO. And there is still time.
Cheney's heart problems were well known in 2000. Perhaps not a totally balanced comparison (Pres vs Veep) but it didn't prevent him from running twice on the ticket successfully.
Not so fast.
Let’s look at the logic here. Fred Thompson has a comfortable and happy life with his wife and children, has a fun “job” (mostly playing himself) on tv, and writing editorials for Paul Harvey/ABC radio from time to time.
WHY, if he isn’t running, would he bring out this unknown fact til this morning, UNLESS he’s getting ahead of the press prior to announcing a run?
He’s running.
You’re not quite right either. Response to treatment for Non-Hodgkins is dependent on genotype.
Those with the right genotype respond well and others die often miserably.
Well he has been talking to his buddy McCain who also has cancer. Maybe he wanted input on how much stress it would be on him if he runs.
OK, sounds good to me!
I guess we’ll see, in time.
Thanks.
“lack of money “.....LMAO, I highly doubt that, where is the proof! Besides, wait until he announces, he will set the WORLD record in fundraising!
BTTT
Oh no.
My prayers are with him and his family.
My friend's granddaughter discovered she had NON-Hodgkins Lymphoma shortly after learning she was pregnant. The local doctors wanted her to abort the baby because she would have to have chemo therapy. She went to Illinois where her grandfather had been treated for skin cancer and they told her they were pretty sure she could keep the baby. To make a long story short she went through the chemo, baby born alright and it has now been 7 years no problems with either of them.
Also, is non-Hodgkins not awful? Is it a good thing?
