Bill Donohue Thought South Park Parody Was “Hilarious”
crooksandliars ^ | April 7,2007 | SilentPatriot

Wednesday's South Park, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone parodied the Catholic League's Bill Donohue as a power-hungry Catholic Church official who overthrows Pope Benedict and jails Jesus for going against the Church. On last night's Scarborough Country, Donohue reacted to the show in a very surprising way given his track record of over-exaggerated outrage and violent rhetoric.

"Maybe I do come across too tough on TV. I thought it was hilarious and our staff thought it was hilarious. I said, listen, I said I have no defense except I'm gonna go with it."

Donohue's official statement can be found here. His "I have no defense" reaction speaks to the sheer genius of South Park. Anyone who watched the show knows they hit him hard for sometimes acting un-Christian, but the moral of the episode was one with which he couldn't have possibly disagreed. In case you missed it, check the ComedyCentral schedule here. It'll be rerun tonight through Monday

And I can't think of any group they skewer harder than Catholic clergy.

If anything, the Catholic church has left them some low-hanging fruit that's just been an irresistable target. But I do think they've typically gone more after the goofy things that certain catholics have done, moreso than the Church itself, even the Pope.

I'd say they were a good deal tougher on Scientology, and even the Mormon church, as institutions, than they've been on Catholicism itself.

How is Donohue anti-semitic? Of course, the term is like racist or homophobe, so overused that it has lost its meaning.

It was Jesus's idea, and Jesus promised not to tell Eric Cartman that a Jew killed him.

Yeah depicting the murder the Son of God again having him spurt blood a;l over the place is pretty hilarious. Usually a term like blasphemy would be applied here, but whats the point?

Donohue has his eye on the ball. He objects when people attack the Catholic Church, not when people attack the Catholic League. Defending himself is not his concern.

"Who really cares what Hollywood thinks? All these hacks come out there. Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular."
-Bill Donahue
I could find you any number of other quotes, as well. Bill Donahue clearly has a Jew problem.

Well, they had the vatican populated by priests who worshipped a large spider? and who said it was part of basic catholic doctrine that priests have sex with young boys.

It didn’t seem to be attacking a “few people in the church”.

Notice the HUGE prominence of the PAAS brand.

I wonder who paid whom?

Was this a parody making fun of product placement?

Very surprised at his reaction, especially at Kyle murdering Jesus. I turned it off at that point. Some sacrifices made in life just cannot be mocked.

Quite the contrary, I think it brought the message home to a lot of people who might not have gotten it otherwise. Jesus offered himself up because in his death and resurrection he had even greater power. I thought it was brilliant.

I think it was a simple case of throwing something in that we all recognize. It certainly took me back a few years.

“It is unconscionable that in this day and age Superintendent Rearick would choose to honor a thief. As every schoolchild knows, Peter Rabbit stole from Mr. McGregor’s garden. To now hold him up as a role model to impressionable youngsters sends the wrong signal. At the very least, grief counselors should be dispatched to tomorrow’s event.
- Bill Donohue

Bravo! Whatever else I may learn of him, this is great stuff.
