Rudy Giuliani has a lot to learn about campaigning outside of New York City.
The former New York mayor attended a roundtable discussion with heavy-hitters at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City recently. Two of the three co-hosts were natural gas billionaires who are CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.
Mayor Giuliani was doing fine until one CEO asked him what his energy policy was, a participant said. He gave a very detailed and lengthy answer covering every energy source imaginable, but he never once uttered the words natural gas. Considering where he was, who he was talking to, and who was sponsoring the fundraiser, it was very insulting and showed a lack of preparation.
Another participant started to ask a question about Iraq.
In the middle of the question, Mayor Giulianis personal cell phone rang, and he answered it, the participant said. At first, I think people thought he was kidding. But then he just started talking; and without looking up or saying anything to us, he just got up, left the room, and never came back! Everyone waited about 20 minutes, and then the room started to break up. It was bizarre behavior.
A Giuliani spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
the event was closed to the press.....see post 51
If the Rudy handlers are doing their job, the last thing they want is Rudy to speak out on Iraq at this time, the phone thing was merely a way OUT OF answering the question about an issue they have yet to decide Rudy’s response to.
They were doing their job. Otherwise, Rudy would have left his phone on the sidelines.
Yes he did. And dont call him Shirley.
Since I presently have two gas wells, I will not vote for Rudy.
Sorry. I Don’t know how that happened other than the fact that I’m not too high tech.
Why, it was Judith, of course...telling him what her energy policy is....
Thanks for bailing me out.
Rudi is rapidly turning into a Republican “Gong Show” candidate. No, Rudi supporters, don’t inundate me with an avalance of trite, smarmy answers...his actions speak for themselves.
The young people like him and I’m not surprised. There’s a lot of energy around Rudy and young kids relate to that. Thanks for that ping and good news.
Rudy Giuliani - a “not ready for prime time player”.
The one and only reason political candidates do these events is to raise money
When you have two billionaires sitting at the table with you, you have to assume they are at least interesting in supporting him financially.
To leave these people hanging in the breeze after walking off for a cell phone call, means two things
1. Rooty is a total and complete arrogant elitist
2. Rooty really isn't up to running a presidential campaign and doesn't have what it takes to run the full race putting up with these "fly over" yahoo's
Probably both
That was quite honest and appropriate, no matter who or what you are.
Thanks. Now I have stupid song in my head...:)
What I want is a NAMED source for this story about his behavior while there. Unless I see one, I am going to treat this the same way I treat anonymous stories about Bush in the New York Times: IGNORE.
OK....have at it, LOL
send him a check, too :)
A hat, or a broach, or a pterodactyl...
