A top hurricane forecaster called Al Gore "a gross alarmist" Friday for making an Oscar-winning documentary about global warming.
"He's one of these guys that preaches the end of the world type of things. I think he's doing a great disservice and he doesn't know what he's talking about," Dr. William Gray said in an interview with The Associated Press at the National Hurricane Conference in New Orleans, where he delivered the closing speech.
A spokeswoman said Gore was on a flight from Washington, D.C., to Nashville Friday; he did not immediately respond to Gray's comments.
Gray, an emeritus professor at the atmospheric science department at Colorado State University, has long railed against the theory that heat-trapping gases generated by human activity are causing the world to warm.
Over the past 24 years, Gray, 77, has become known as America's most reliable hurricane forecaster; recently, his mentee, Philip Klotzbach, has begun doing the bulk of the forecasting work.
Gray's statements came the same day the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change approved a report that concludes the world will face dire consequences to food and water supplies, along with increased flooding and other dramatic weather events, unless nations adapt to climate change.
Rather than global warming, Gray believes a recent uptick in strong hurricanes is part of a multi-decade trend of alternating busy and slow periods related to ocean circulation patterns. Contrary to mainstream thinking, Gray believes ocean temperatures are going to drop in the next five to 10 years.
Gore's documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," has helped fuel media attention on global warming.
Kerry Emanuel, an MIT professor who had feuded with Gray over global warming, said Gray has wrongly "dug (his) heels in" even though there is ample evidence that the world is getting hotter.

So I wrote her back and asked her to explain these global warming "principles" that cause it to snow in Dallas, Texas and southward toward Austin in mid-April. Haven't heard a word back. These people (liberals) have blind faith in global warming simply because it it just one more way to hate and oppose Bush. And yes, I obviously have friends who are complete idiots.

It’s just a belief system. That’s what “scientific consensus” is. A “feeling”. They lack facts and data to prove anything but believe anyway.
They will ridicule you for shunning “science” while they ignore the imperical evidence and historical data.
If you want to see the top of your friend’s head blow off, tell her that one of the first irrefutable manifestations of Global Warming is a new Ice Age. Then it is expected that the pendulum will swing violently back to a super cold period. That should get her going.

I think Gray is saying that humans are not the cause of Global Warming.
I think Emanuel is saying that Gray is a fool for denying that the world is getting hotter.
Emanuel seems to have missed the point.
First off... I have a degree in Mathematics and Science and Al Gore does not. That's a fact. Second, can you actually answer these very simple questions about the climate?
a) What is an "average" global temperature in a non-equilibrium system? For example, the Earth is a non-equilibrium system. How can you have an "average" temperature in a non-equilibrium system?
b) Since 1998 the temperature has been trending downward. Please explain this.
c) From WWII to 1980 the temperature trended downward while CO2 increased. Please explain this.
d) Is the trend outside of a natural historical cycle? Please answer.
e) Do you know what percentage of CO2 is in our atmosphere? Please answer.
I'd prefer you answer without going to Google, but if you have blind faith in Global Warming, then by all means, use Google to answer questions you should already have answers to.
And telling me to look up the "principles" of global warming when you cannot even write 1 or 2 sentences on your own on the "principles" of global warming is totally amusing to me.
But by burning off his blubber trough exercise, the Goracle will be adding CO2 to the atmosphere. Imagine if Micheal Moore, Rosie and Gore did that at the same time? We really would have global warming!
So now it's "climate change?" LOL! Gee, I don't remember the climate ever NOT changing. Moonbats are morons.

The Earth may be getting hotter. It also may be getting cooler. We have no way of knowing for sure, except to say that it is getting hotter in some areas, and cooler in others.
Gore was busy flying somewhere again...using up those carbon credits he buys from his own carbon-exchange company. What a blatant hypocrite!
And EVERY msm story mentions that bogus “Oscar-winning documentary,” awarded by Leftists to a fellow Leftist, as though it confers legitimacy to his junk science.

Some more questions for your friend —
1. What impact do volcano eruptions have on the global climate? If such eruptions have the ability to affect global climate, then please explain to me how scientists are now able to predict such for the next 100 years.
2. Same as #1, only for solar flares. If solar activity affects climate, how are scientists now able to predict such activity for the next 100 years?
3. Please document the amount temperature increase that is due to human activity.
4. Please tell me what the weather will be in (name of my town) next week?
Do me a big favor. When the month is over, see if you can find a statement of the average low temperature for April in Dallas. Save that number. Next year, do the same thing. (Or, if you want to save time, find the average low temperature in Dallas for last April.) Take the average of the two numbers. Compare this to the current "historical" average April low temperature for Dallas from this plot:
If the averaged low monthly temperature for the last two years for Dallas is lower than the 56 F (the approximate midpoint temperature for the month), send me a message.
Otherwise, cold weather and snow in April in Texas is meaningless in the climate sense. Climate is average weather.
