ABCs "20/20" Seeking "Armed Citizen" Stories
Friday, April 06, 2007
Gun ban groups often claim that private citizens rarely, if ever, use guns in self-defense. ABC News "20/20" is now putting that claim to the test, asking viewers to submit their own real-life "Armed Citizen" stories. ABCs website asks:
Have you ever defended yourself from a crime in your home, in your business, or in public by using a gun? Perhaps you warded off a potential attacker by simply showing a gun?
If youve personally used a gun in a legitimate act of self-protection against a criminal attacker, we encourage you to tell your story to ABC News. To tell your story, go to http://www.abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=3015150 and complete their web form.
And to ensure that we at NRA know how many responses ABC gets, please send us a copy of your story by e-mailing armedcitizen@nrahq.org. You can also call NRA Public Affairs at (703) 267-1193.

I could be wrong but I think he (John Stossel) describes himself as a libertarian.
In the world of the MSM, being libertarian is conservative.
Stossel goes after the sacred cows of the liberals, even the liberal media. Hes done a lot of good reporting on a number of topics and his point of view is decidedly more conservative than it is liberal. If this piece on 20/20 is one of his, then gun owners may get a fair shake.

Its a setup, alright. However, there are so many ways to use a weapon to get the point across without even weilding it at all.
An example:
Periodically we have our carpets cleaned. When the carpet guys arrive, we have to show them around and tell them which rooms to clean. They can observe what is in the house (should they like to try to come back later to obtain stuff unlawfully, or if they let a 'friend' know about the location of xyz...). So, when we get to our Master bedroom on the lower floor, I always have a "OOPS...let me get these out of your way" moment as I grab two shotguns leaning against the headrest posts on either side of the bed. They get the point, and I haven't said a word or implied anything. Whether it is the carpet cleaner, an electrician, a plumber or someone else I don't know, there is always an "OOPS...let me get these out of your way" moment.

OK, you guys have convinced me. I won't tell ABC anything about the two situations in which I saved my bacon by having a gun handy. If ABC is true to form it would manage to somehow make me appear to be a trigger-happy gun nut who used a wicked assault pistol to threaten some innocent, upstanding young citizens who were only trying to help me find my way out of their "hood". It was just my paranoid gun-nut mental illness that made me think they were predatory criminals who wanted to rob and assault me.
Still it may be interesting to see what ABC (Anything But Conservative) does with this. I want to find out when it will be aired, if it is aired.

Sounds like a setup for a hatchet job -- I'm certain
20/20 has no intention of being fair and/or balanced.
Would 20/20 be willing to do a Part-2 to this story -- would it do a report on people have been killed, raped, maimed, etc., because they FOLLOWED gun-control laws? The laws that the bad guys don't worry about it? (The murdered Carpenter children in Merced come to mind.) When 20/20 follows through with something like that, then I'll give it the benefit of a doubt. Not before.

Have you decided on a carry piece yet?
I found a pic of the one I have for that purpose.
Prayers up for young Caleb.
Happy Easter Dave.

They're in the "news" business. Why don't they use a search engine and a phone? That's too much trouble. They want 'news' to come to them. What a bunch of lazy *sses.

cant tell what that ammo is, though. 9mm? It's a Charter Arms Bulldog chambered in .44 Special (not Magnum).
It's basically got the ballistics of a .45 ACP without all the bulk. I find it to be a rugged and handy little 5 shot revolver.
It's wicked accurate at 21 feet and not too bad at 35 feet. If you can find a used one they're a real bargain.
And no, it doesn't kick like a mule.
Best to you and yours.

I’m sure they have published some stories themselves. Why not ask the NRA’s compiled articles?
It could be one big PR stunt to attract an audience or to get some kind of informal poll. I don’t trust ‘em.

I wouldn’t trust 20/20 to do a fair job on this. In the past, they have gotten legit interviews that they proceeded to cut to ribbons, making fools of the interviewees. I think 20/20 has been relatively fair and balanced. After all, it's on Friday nights at 10, when most conservatives are home with their spouse, and most liberals are out on the town exploring "alternative lifestyles."

I had to use that for a Jehovah's Witness who pestered my buddy in college. It was “gun cleaning day” and the living room had rifles, shotguns and pistols all over. I said politely (never met him before) that maybe he should just prostelyze somebody else. Problem solved.

I had to use that for a Jehovah's Witness The fourth time the folks from the local Kingdom Hall knocked on my door at 9:00am on a Saturday morning I was done being polite.
I work midnights and was really tired of them banging on my door and making the dogs go crazy.
So I jumped out of bed, walked downstairs, threw open my door and immediately invited the two lady JW's into my home for some coffee and a long chat about their beliefs.
Did I mention the fact that I had neglected to put on any clothing before answering the door?
I haven't seen 'em since.
