Cheney accuses Pelosi of "bad behavior" in Syria Thu Apr 5, 2007 6:15PM EDT

By Susan Cornwell

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney accused U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday of "bad behavior" on her Middle East trip, saying she bungled a message for Syria's president that was later clarified by Israel.

Cheney harshly criticized Pelosi's visit to Syria this week and declared in an interview, "The president is the one who conducts foreign policy, not the speaker of the House."

Pelosi's Syrian stopover was opposed from the start by the Bush administration, which accuses Damascus of sponsoring terrorism and says it should be isolated from the international community.

While in Damascus on Wednesday, Pelosi announced she had told Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that Israel was prepared to negotiate with Syria. That prompted Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office to underline the Jewish state's preconditions for such talks -- including that Syria abandon its "support for terrorist groups."

Cheney, pointing to the Israeli reaction, said it was obvious Olmert had not authorized the message Pelosi delivered.

"It was a non-statement, nonsensical statement and didn't make any sense at all that she would suggest that those talks could go forward as long as the Syrians conducted themselves as a prime state sponsor of terror," the vice president said on the Rush Limbaugh radio show.

"I think it is, in fact bad behavior on her part. I wish she hadn't done it," Cheney said. "Fortunately I think the various parties involved recognize she doesn't speak for the Untied States in those circumstances, she doesn't represent the administration."

This is MUCH more serious than it seems on the surface.

I agree, what's to stop her and any future Speaker to act as a pseudo president? I'm hoping there is enough disgust and embarrassment in the air that even she feels it, but I'm not very confident of that.

We have people in the country who think that there is never a reason for war, ever.

"We have people in the country who think that there is never a reason for war," WHEN A REPUBLICAN IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Remember, these same people were all but invisible while BJ Clinton was bombing Bosnia back to the stone age.

That picture makes it look like she’s going to the local market to buy potatoes, cabbage, onions and turnips.

If she wanted to do something to destroy her credibility quickly and not look so foolish, she could have copies the Dean Scream.

If i had a lick of artistic ability I’d draw a cartoon showing Pelosi walking to her plane to leave Syria and you see a piece of toilet paper trailing from the bottom of her shoe....but on closer inspection it’s the Constitution of The United States of America.

She degrades our Republic and there isn’t a spine in Washington D.C. that will do a dang thing about it.

"One terror leader, Khaled Al-Batch, a militant and spokesman for Islamic Jihad, expressed hope Pelosi would continue winning elections, explaining the House speaker's Damascus visit demonstrated she understands the Middle East."

That very exclusive Club, also known as the US Senate has a lot of quirky rules and guidelines which (in my case) were rather unknown and obscure until after the Republicans took the upper House some years ago.

The very notion that the lower House of Congress regardless of political Party is going to allow this sort of behavior to continue is ominous.

The Democrats need to reel this crazy lady in at once.

This Pelosi trip has to be one of the most destructive things to happen in American politics since the Civil War era.

they are more than happy to trample on the constitution

And keep in mind that the U.S. Constitution has not been taught in our gov’mint skools for two generations now, so no one knows, let alone cares, about some ‘ole outdated list of rules’.

I know they said it later as if Cheney thought it up, but they conviently left out the part where Israel said specifically Olmert did NOT say anything resembling the statement Pelosi made to the press about peace. In other words Olmert flat out said Pelosi lied. Rubarb news couldn't quite bring themselve to tell all but couldn't hide it either after the Post ripped Pelosi a new one yesterday.

BUT... if I had an accidental shooting on my resume (one for which the VICTIM apologized for, no less!), I’d would think I’d be bit reticent about appointing myself the judge of what is “bad behavior”.< BS, an accidental shooting is supposed to stop Cheney from telling it like it is? The shooting was just that, an accident. It was hashed over and done with long ago. You guys that lurk here from DU give yourselves away so easily by what you say. This statement is over the top and very non-conservative, obviously you have never been involved in an automobile accident which, btw, kill far more people every year than hunting accidents, so you are clean as a whistle, right?

BTW, the person who appologized did so because he was at fault. There are rules to obey when you hunt in a group while bird hunting and this fellow was where he shouldn't have been. Just another indication that you are most likely a liberal plant.

“BS, an accidental shooting is supposed to stop Cheney from telling it like it is?”

No, but people in glass houses, pots and kettles, and all that....

“You guys that lurk here from DU give yourselves away so easily by what you say.”

I’ve been here longer than you have. Some lurker. You morons who make assinine statements without checking your facts first give yourselves away so easily.

“obviously you have never been involved in an automobile accident which, btw, kill far more people every year than hunting accidents, so you are clean as a whistle, right? “

Nope, but I probably have untold thousands of dead Iraqis to my credit from the first go-around (Gulf War I). How many dead men do you have on your conscience?

“BTW, the person who appologized did so because he was at fault.”

You mean he put his face in front of the muzzle and pulled the trigger himself? Sorry. While the man did break a cardinal safety rule (like never run or pop up across another hunter’s line of sight, perhaps?), he still didn’t fire the shot. Cheney is and always will be responsible, and I don’t give a rat’s backside if he’s your personal hero or something but if anyone ever shot me in the friggin’ face, friend or not, accident or not, I wouldn’t haul my backside up to a TV camera and apologize to him.

Justify it anyway your fevered little pea-brain wants to: he shot a man.

Fair enough. Bear this in mind vis-a-vis Rush:

“Fanaticism is redoubling your efforts after you have lost sight of your goal”

Ten points for any Freeper who can identify the great American thinker who coined that one. No Google-ing, please!

Visiting with the enemy against the direction of the Commander in Chief is treason. She’s not the only one. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) went to Syria and visited with the terror sponsors in December 2006. George Washington would have Pelosi, Reid, Nelson and Co. hanging from a noose by now.

having a hunting accident is bad behavior. GIVE ME A BREAK.

Nothing that Stretch Pelosi did on this trip was even close to normal international relations.....in fact it could be construed as aiding and abetting and enemy of the state.....

CAN YOU SAY TREASON
