For the first time, Seattle Public Schools are sending students from four high schools to attend the annual White Privilege Conference, sponsored by the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the University of Denver, Teaching Tolerance, Study Circles Resource Center, The Matrix, Center for Judaic Studies, GLSEN, and many more organizations. Speakers include Geneva Gay, Peggy McIntosh, Joy Leary, John-Paul Chaisson-Cardenas and many others who are actively engaged in anti-racism. This year's conference takes place in Colorado Springs from April 18th through the 21st. There are workshops designed specifically for youth, as well as sessions open to all conference participants. We are very excited about this opportunity for students and teachers to grow and learn together at an intense 3-day conference. In support of increasing student voice related to school reform and equity, funding for students to attend the WPC is provided through the small learning communities grant. From their website: "The conference participants and presenters include corporate and non-profit community members, students, educators, activists, musicians and artists. This conference is not about beating up on white folks. This conference is about critically examining the society in which we live and working to dismantle systems of power, prejudice, privilege and oppression." Equity and Race Relations
White Privilege Conference
" The annual White Privilege Conference (WPC) serves as a yearly opportunity to examine and explore difficult issues related to white privilege, white supremacy and oppression. WPC provides a forum for critical discussions about diversity, multicultural education and leadership, social justice, race/racism, sexual orientation, gender relations, religion and other systems of privilege/oppression. WPC is recognized as a challenging, empowering and educational experience. The workshops, keynotes and institutes not only inform participants, but engage and challenge them, while providing practical tips and strategies for combating inequality.

WPC8 WPC8 will focus on issues of privilege and oppression related to youth. WPC8 keynotes, institutes, and workshop sessions will provide information, practical tools and strategies to assist both youth and adults. The sessions will be challenging and practical. GOALS EXPECTATIONS We are sending students to this conference with the expectation that they will apply what they learn to their school setting in Seattle. Throughout the conference we have scheduled specific check-in times to debrief what we are learning. Following the conference, students are expected to attend a workshop to discuss how to apply what they learned to projects in their schools on: Additional meetings for project planning and implementing will be set by each school group independently.

Tuesday, April 24th from 6-8pm, location TBD
In the spring, students from all of the schools will again meet to share what theyve accomplished at an Equity Summit.
I found this news item because it was linked at Orbusmax
These folks couldn’t live without racism; it’s their lifeblood and meal ticket.
Who’s $$$ is paying for this? Never mind that most kids don’t see color until adults bring it to their attention.
There, all better!
Although it doesn't say so directly, it seems that it's being paid for by the School District (taxpayers)
From the "Expectations" page:
"We are sending students to this conference with the expectation....." (emphasis added)
I guess the “white guilt” indoctrination has to start early.
Nothing but a bunch race hustling BS to keep the Race Industry going.
Washington State Ping
That’s happening here in the Springs? I may have to leave town for a couple of days to keep from losing my lunch.

I’m so glad I didn’t take that job in Seattle...
In the words of Pat DiNizio and The Smithereens, “I’m Sick of Seattle.”
Can you go and take notes as a how-to thing?
Call me cynical, but I'm just taking a wild guess and thinking that there won't be a whole lot of information dispersed that's actually useful in any way.
However, if you don't think that your child hates white people enough and doesn't have a big enough chip on his / her shoulder, this sounds like a great opportunity.

Send a mole ... that conference needs some sunshine. (hmmm, that sounds mutually exclusive, doesn’t it?)
