FRENCH ELECTION UPDATE :: French Voters Keep Sarkozy on Top
Angus Reid Global Monitor : Polls & Research ^ | April 5, 2007 | staff

- Nicolas Sarkozy remains the frontrunner in this month’s presidential election in France, according to a tracking poll by Ipsos released by SFR and Le Point. 31.5 per cent of respondents would vote for the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) contender.

Ségolène Royal of the Socialist Party (PS) is second with 25 per cent, followed by Union for French Democracy (UDF) leader François Bayrou with 18.5 per cent, and Jean-Marie Le Pen of the National Front (FN) with 13 per cent.

In a prospective run-off scenario, Sarkozy holds an eight-point advantage over Royal. In addition, Bayrou leads Sarkozy by two points.

The next election is scheduled for Apr. 22. If no candidate garners more than 50 per cent of all cast ballots, a run-off would take place on May 6.

With less than three weeks to go, Sarko's lead seems to be consolidating. He has consistently beaten Royal in every published poll since the Fall.

Bayrou seems to have little chance of regaining lost support, and it is highly unlikely he will make it to the runoff.

Sarko may be France's last chance before sinking into an abyss.

Fortunately, he has a strong, steady lead in the polls, 55%-45%. The Socialists are polling at their lowest since 1969.

That's a good thing.

What will happen if the French elect the pro-American Sarkozy and the American sheeple elect the anti-American Hitlery Clinton?

Will than make the French anti-American again or just anti-Hitlery?

I don’t know about anti-Americanism, but it would make France more conservative than America.

The French loved bill clinton. He buttered them up and bowed down to them, and made them feel superior to the naughty hillbilly. I doubt whether hillary has the tact to pull it off. Bill did it all over the world. Everyone could feel a comfortable kind of contempt for him.

My response to that is that Hitlery is not going to get elected...now way no how.

Man, he has a similar advertisement motto to the governor of Massachusetts Duvall Patrick when he was campaigning he had a motto “Together We can”, Sarkozy motto is “Together everything is possible”. I hope he is not a liberal as Patrick.

By possibly electing Sarkozy, France has both the time and the opportunity to actually do something that could help their country improve itself a lot on many issues!

My two years of high school French are rusty. Does that translate to 'together, all becomes (will become) possible'?

Nice unity slogan if so. Good picture of him, snappy font choice, nice graphic design. Reminds me a bit of Reagan's 'Morning In America' theme, a political classic.

Sarko seems like an optimist but a problem solver who understands the problems France is facing. That banner works well for his themes as a candidate.
