Travolta's 707 makes emergency landing

Hollywood star John Travolta was forced to make an emergency landing in Ireland on Monday while piloting his private Boeing 707 from Germany to New York.
The actor, who was flying back to the USA after promoting his new movie Wild Hogs in Germany, landed safely at Shannon Airport after his Boeing 707-138B suffered "technical difficulties", thought to be engine-related. He was said to be unhurt but shaken by the dramatic incident. The 53-year-old, the only private individual to own a Boeing 707, serial number N707JT, hired another aircraft and completed the journey while the 707 was grounded for repairs.
Eight years ago the star suffered a similar mid-air drama when his plane lost an engine and he was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston.

Modern, efficient engines won't fit on a 707 (they are too fat).Like these fat ones?

I think this plane is a DC-8, not 707, but I could be wrong.

Do we know if his 707 has had the engines modified to be more fuel efficient and less polluting?According to the article from this thread Travolta's "carbon footprint" is 100 times more than the average (Britons).

The one in the picture at post 101 is a KC-135, which is a darned sight closer to a 707 than to a DC-8.

Yep....Staying Alive and a few other bombs pretty much killed his early career success. He was a forgotten star before Pulp Fiction. Since then...well those salaries tell the story. What Pulp Fiction did for his career makes his salary on that movie irrelevant.

I think if you lose an engine on a 707, a landing becomes immediately necessary. From what I have read, they don't operate well on two engines - the plane just doesn't have the aerodynamic efficiency.
