Travolta's 707 makes emergency landing

Hollywood star John Travolta was forced to make an emergency landing in Ireland on Monday while piloting his private Boeing 707 from Germany to New York.

The actor, who was flying back to the USA after promoting his new movie Wild Hogs in Germany, landed safely at Shannon Airport after his Boeing 707-138B suffered "technical difficulties", thought to be engine-related. He was said to be unhurt but shaken by the dramatic incident. The 53-year-old, the only private individual to own a Boeing 707, serial number N707JT, hired another aircraft and completed the journey while the 707 was grounded for repairs.

Eight years ago the star suffered a similar mid-air drama when his plane lost an engine and he was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston.

Maybe I'm wrong.

He may have been flying it himself, but who was his copilot?

Do we know if his 707 has had the engines modified to be more fuel efficient and less polluting?

Modern, efficient engines won't fit on a 707 (they are too fat).

Wow, that’s a cool pad. As long as he doesn’t jump on the “carbon exemption” bandwagon, you go Travolta!

The old used jet market is a very squishy thing. Don't know what they go for nowdays.

I remember a few years ago when 737-200s mothballed when they ran out out greentime on the HMV, you could pick them up for $800K, for a 727 about 1 /2 million, 2 mill or so for an old 707.

If he wanted something he could make some money with, he should have bought one of UAL’s retired DC8-73’s (re engined with the CFM56) UPS got some, and so did Air Canada IIRC.

Larry,
He wasn’t flying it alone.
Horshack was co-pilot.

I’m sure Quantas probably kicks in maintenance considering he’s a flying billboard for the airline. And he does take his flying seriously, so I image he’s not one to scrimp on it in any event.

If it is a politician with such a spread that would be bad, but a movie star, okay.

Yes. That’s John smooching some other guy in a not so platonic, or French kiss on the cheek, kind of way.

He’s gay? Oh please say it isn’t so.

That’ll teach me to walk by all those colorful “newspapers” in the supermarket.

I never heard this before.

Two emergency landings in the last eight years with that bird.
Sounds to me like it’s time to flush that turd.

(Hey, it rhymes!)

I can’t believe he made Pulp Fiction for a mere $140,000. He must have gotten something else in the deal.
