PORTLAND, Ore. Apr 1, 2007 (AP) An Oregon man on vacation with his family is accused of putting two of his four children in a car trunk because the vehicle was too small to hold all of them.
Douglas Willy, 40, was arrested Saturday after police received a tip from a person who saw the family at a gas station, authorities said. He was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment.
Willy, his fiancee and their four children were taking a trip but the vehicle did not fit all six passengers. So, police said, he decided two of the children would ride in the trunk to avoid taking a second vehicle.
Police said a 12-year-old and 13-year-old were in the trunk, and had been riding inside for about 20 miles.
The woman took the children home on Saturday. Authorities said Willy was released without bail Sunday.
A telephone message left Sunday at the Willy's home was not immediately returned.
Question arises as to why they didn't just buy a bigger car when they needed it. If the oldest were 12 and 14, they had to have known they needed more room. It couldn't have been 12 years since they bought their last car, now could it?
Answer: They are slobs and unfit to be parents.

You are using logic in an effort to understand slobs....this never works.
They had two small cars.....selling them both to buy one larger car, or even renting a passenger van or SUV for the duration of the vacation would be options that coherent people might consider.
Rumble seat?
Same here! My dad drove huge Buick convertibles with all of us stuffed in the back seat. Between the windburn and the sun and the constant bickering, I still have an aversion to convertibles.
Funny, but I can still see him standing by the car, roaring "Pump the Bilges" at all of us! My sister, Mary, never quite understood the concept...I do believe we stopped at every gas station on the East Coast during my childhood.
Having once driven an 8, 11, & 12 year old from Connecticut to Nebraska & back, I can think of some benefits in this
Especially when the two older ones kept sticking their armpits in the youngest's face for about 400 miles!!
"Where are we?"
Look at the road signs
"What time is it?"
Five minutes later than the last time you asked

Tell him not to look at me
He keeps looking at me
Tell him not to look at me
He's looking at me again
Tell him not to look at me
And on, and on, and on!!
LOL I understand the frustations :-)
However, I'm assuming that putting your kids into the trunk of a tiny car and then closing the lid for a long trip would most likely be very far down your list of 'action options' :-)
Yeah, especially since I had a mini-van- no trunk!!
Of course, if you ever met the 8 year-old (now 22)!!
No, I would never put my children in the trunk of a car, but I would ponder it
[Boo-hoo-hoo] Officer, please; [snivel!] the [sob!] mean man made me go along with it. [snort; hic, snivel] He said...[bwaaaah!] said he'd B-B-B-BEAT me if I [gulp; sniff!] complained. I'm (boo-hoo] So SORRY!!
He's looking at me again
He's not looking at you; he's looking out the window.
But it's MY window, so make him stop anyway!
Well, she touched me! make her stop touching me!
But, he breathed on me!
No I didn't; I was just trying to see out the window, and she got in my way!
My dad's solution was a willow switch tucked in above his sunvisor, in easy reach, right above the steering wheel. He could reach all the legs in the entire back seat with it, and never take his eyes off the road.
DON'T make him have to pull over... :)
The solution is to get an older-model suburban...Something about the interior seems to keep the noise occuring in the back from reach the front seats.
It’s a beautiful thing...
