“In Overture to Iran, Qaddafi Declares North Africa Shi’ite and Calls for Establishment of New Fatimid State”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “On March 31, 2007, Libyan leader Mu’ammar Qaddafi called, in a speech in Niger to Tuareg tribal leaders, for the establishment of a second Shi’ite Fatimid state in North Africa, after the model of the 10th-13th century empire that ruled North Africa, Egypt, and parts of the Fertile Crescent. In his speech, Qaddafi denounced the division of Muslims into Sunni and Shi’ite as a colonialist plot, and rebuked the Arab League members for “hating Iran.”
At the beginning of the month, on March 1, 2007 - the eve of the anniversary of the coup that brought the Libyan Free Officers to power - Qaddafi gave a speech in which he denied the existence of a non-Arab Berber people (this also being a colonialist plot), provoking protest among Berbers and supporters of minority rights in the Middle East and North Africa.
The following are excerpts from Qaddafi’s speeches:”

“Nuclear Plant Stable After Explosion”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “(CBS) WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. An electrical fault and fire in a transformer yard forced the automatic shutdown Friday of the Indian Point 3 nuclear power plant, officials said.
The fire, which was quickly extinguished, was outside the nuclear area of the plant and there was no release of radiation, said Diane Screnci of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
“The plant is stable and reacted normally,” she said. “There’s no impact on public health and safety.”
Nevertheless, the plant, which is on the Hudson River in Buchanan, about 40 miles north of New York City, declared an “unusual event,” the lowest of several safety alert classifications, Screnci said. The declaration required Entergy Nuclear Northeast, owner of Indian Point, to notify the governments of the surrounding counties.
Entergy spokesman Jim Steets said a fire in the transformer is among the events that trigger an automatic shutdown of a nuclear plant.
He said the cause of the fire was not known. It spread smoke around the area of the transformer yard, which is across a street from the plant in Buchanan, but was confined to the transformer, he said.”

ICE arrests 40 illegal aliens with criminal records in Raleigh area
North Carolina’s first Operation Cross Check a success
RALEIGH, NC - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Raleigh Fugitive Operations Team targeted and arrested 40 illegal aliens with criminal histories during North Carolina’s first Operation Cross Check.
The two-day operation culminated Wednesday netting criminals with histories including indecent liberties with a child, assault on a female, and armed robbery. The Raleigh Fugitive Operations Team worked with local law enforcement agencies to identify and locate the most egregious criminals who are in the country illegally.
“Operation Cross Check is a powerful tool aiding ICE’s interior enforcement strategy,” said Felicia Skinner, acting Field Office Director for ICE’s Office of Detention and Removal overseeing North Carolina. “By working with local law enforcement agencies, we can locate, arrest and deport criminal aliens who might otherwise pose a threat to our communities.”
Below are some of the criminal aliens arrested during the two-day operation:
Jesus Cordero-Nava, 23, has two felony convictions for armed robbery and a misdemeanor conviction for assault on a female, and will additionally be presented for prosecution for re-entering the country after being previously deported.
Luis Ochoa-Mencias, 19, has felony convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and statutory rape in Durham County. An immigration judge had previously ordered Ochoa removed.
Alberto Parada, 33, has convictions for sexual battery and assault on a woman.
Those arrested with outstanding orders of removal will be immediately deported, while others will remain in ICE custody awaiting the outcome of their case.
ICE’s Fugitive Operations Unit began planning and conducting Operation Cross Check nationwide in Jan. 2007. Other initiatives include Operation Return to Sender, which focuses on removing fugitive aliens from the United States, and Operation Secure Streets, which targets aliens with previous driving under the influence (DUI) arrests and convictions. The Raleigh Fugitive Operations Team arrested 44 criminal aliens during its latest Operation Secure Streets in March.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “An illegal alien suspected of causing a traffic accident and killing movie director Bob Clark, whose “A Christmas Story” has come alongside “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Miracle on 34th Street” as a perennial holiday must-watch, has been placed under an immigration hold by federal authorities.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency placed the hold on Hector Velazquez-Nava, 24, a Mexican national who was living in Los Angeles as an illegal immigrant, according to a report from Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee.
Agency spokeswoman Virginia Kice said the hold means Valezquez-Nava, when his Los Angeles court proceedings are completed, will be turned over to federal immigration officials and put into deportation proceedings.”
