-Full Story-

Iran's president promised on Sunday Iranians would soon hear more news about the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, which the West believes is a covert effort to build atomic bombs despite Tehran's denials.

"The Iranian nation will soon hear fresh news about our country's nuclear transition," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying.

He did not give details about any announcements or when the news would be released but Ahmadinejad is due to hold a news conference on Tuesday.

Well, ok, after looking at a lot of sites (and still watching others); I have to agree with some of the experts who believe that a UBL message may be an internet rumor and/or hope and/or hoax by some jihadi sites and/or sites of interest.

That said...the internet is always interesting.

Behavior at Love Field refocus FBI attention on women

DALLAS - With one already considered ‘dangerous’ by the United States government, two women became the center of more critical attention after their alleged actions at Dallas Love Field caught the interest of the FBI and Dallas Police Department.

Sources said in February, Kimberly “Asma” Al-Homsi, 42, and Aisha Abdul-Rahman Hamad, 50, allegedly scoped out Dallas Love Field in a manner classic of surveying an area.

Al-Homsi was already under surveillance and is on the government’s no fly list since being involved in a road rage incident back in December of 2005. Officials said during the incident she held up an inert grenade and threatened another driver. Garland’s bomb squad reported they later found ammunition in her car. (snp)

Thanks for checking it out.
I don’t think we’ll hear from UBL until after an attack.
Elections in France coming up are a concern, IMO.

FBI & Police Investigate Tampered Beef

A case of meat tampering at a North Charleston Super K-Mart has four agencies investigating. North Charleston Police, the FBI, SLED and DHEC are trying to find out who tampered with packaged ground beef in a North Charleston store.

Police say someone took a sharp object and slit open the packaging of several ground beef packages at Super K-Mart. Police found pellets inside the meat. Authorities are not saying what kind of pellets were found, but an officer inspected poisons in the store to make sure there were not additional signs of tampering.

Now, customers are concerned. It was no ordinary day at the grocery store for Customer James Stroble of Goose Creek. He said, “They took all the meat from the stock. They had to check it out.” Count on 2’s Jenny Fisher asked, “So no ground beef on the shelf?” He said, “No meat, nothing.”

Jenny said, “I decided to check things out for myself. I went into this Super K-Mart and, sure enough, all chicken, fish, and beef were removed from the shelves. However, there is a sign saying police are investigating, but mot many details were given.” Customer Lois Jenkins said, “They should let us know. We need to be informed consumers.”

Super K-Mart officials say Wednesday, between the hours of noon and 3:30, someone slit at least three packages of ground beef open. An employee doing a routine inspection found the tampered meat. Police found pellets of some sort inside. Jenkins said, “That’s awful. That’s awful. Its scary to cook and eat anymore.” Jenny asked, “Think so?” She replied, “Yeah, its bad. The dog food and now this.”

K-mart cameras were not on the meat department at the time of the tampering so police, state and federal agencies are investigating a crime that targeted random shoppers. It has Jennifer Lavigne concerned. She said, “Thats very scary. A lot of America eats ground beef.” America...and Lavigne’s four year-old son, Deacon, who loves burgers and meatloaf.

Super K-Mart’s meat department is now open. All beef was disposed of and new products were put on the shelves. However, if you purchased meat from the Super K-Mart Wednesday, you’re asked to return it for a full refund.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Shiraz Ahmed was tending his music store in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, when a group of 15 bearded young men walked in bearing bamboo poles and a chilling message.

Politely but firmly, they instructed him to take down the colourful array of Bollywood and bhangradance tunes on display and to restrict his business to Islamic music.

“They told me I had to change my business,” said Mr Ahmed, 25, whose family has run the store for 15 years. “I am so confused. I don’t know what to do.”

Until last week he might not have worried about these men from Islamabad’s Lal Masjid (Red Mosque). After all, his shop is legal and within walking distance of Pervez Musharraf’s presidential palace.

But this was just one of several signs in the past ten days that a creeping campaign to “Talebanise” Pakistan has spread from tribal areas on the Afghan border right to the heart of the capital. And to judge from the Government’s response, even here it is reluctant to confront the radical clerics who openly preach jihad (holy war) and defy the writ of the state.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Creeping influence

— Leaflets distributed to barbers in the North of Pakistan last month said that growing a beard was an Islamic practice. Barbers no longer offer to shave patrons

— Militants destroyed CDs of Urdu, English and Indian films at a video shop in Bannu, northern Pakistan, in February

— Zil-e-Huma, a woman Punjabi minister, was killed in February by a vigilante because “she was leading an unIslamic life and spreading an evil influence over other women”

— A report by International Crisis Group this month said that madrassas were breeding religious militants

— In Tank, in the North West Frontier Province, the Taleban were discovered recruiting students at a boy’s school. The school head confronted them and was kidnapped the next day”

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

This information is current as of today, Thu Apr 05 2007 23:37:11 GMT-0700.

SRI LANKA

April 05, 2007

This Travel Warning provides updated security information and alerts American citizens traveling to or living in the northern and eastern areas of Sri Lanka of the heightened potential for terrorist actions, including attacks against civilians. While most of the rest of the country remains largely unaffected, the Department continues to warn Americans against traveling to areas in the North and East of the country given the dangers caused by the ongoing fighting between LTTE, other armed groups, and Sri Lankan military forces. This situation is likely to continue for some time. This supersedes the Travel Warning for Sri Lanka dated October 23, 2006.

The Department of State alerts American citizens to the dangers posed by recent acts of terrorism throughout Sri Lanka, and warns against travel to the most seriously affected regions. Although there is no specific indication that American citizens or institutions are targets, there is a general risk of American citizens being victims of violence simply by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Politically motivated assassinations have taken place throughout Sri Lanka, including several in the Colombo area. In many cases, these assassinations involve the use of fragmentation bombs. American citizens in Sri Lanka should be aware of their personal surroundings and follow good security practices. Americans should avoid large crowds or public gatherings and should particularly stay away from political rallies and military bases in Sri Lanka.

Since mid-2006, bombings, political assassinations and other acts of terrorism have occurred in Sri Lanka, including the capital, Colombo. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) and Sri Lankan military forces continue fighting in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

The areas in the North and East are of special concern. These areas are defined as the regions north of a line following the highway from Puttalam through Anuradhapura to Polonaruwa, Bibile and Pottuvil. The Department of State warns U.S. citizens that travel to these areas and into any LTTE-controlled territory may pose severe hazards. Official travel by U.S. Government personnel to these areas is restricted, and unofficial travel is prohibited. In March 2007 the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka sustained a minor injury just after a Sri Lankan military helicopter he was traveling in landed at a military base in Batticaloa. The Ambassador was not the specific target of the LTTE attack. We have no indication at this time of a threat to tourist areas in the Cultural Triangle, including territory around Anaradhapura and Polonnoruwa.

In areas outside of the North and East, Sri Lankan nationals have been the targets of assassinations and bombings. On October 18, the LTTE targeted a Sri Lankan naval facility in Galle, on the southwest coast. On March 26, 2007, the Katunayake Air Force Base in Colombo came under attack from LTTE aircraft, causing the adjacent Bandaranaike International Airport briefly to curtail operations. Foreign tourists were not the objects of the attacks and none were injured.

Americans should comply with all instructions from security forces and police when traveling in Sri Lanka. American citizens, including those of Sri Lankan origin, living in Sri Lanka or traveling there for even a few days are strongly urged to register with the Embassy. Registration will allow the embassy to provide direct information on the security situation as necessary. Registration is done on-line and can be done in advance of travel at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ . Information on registering can also be found at the Embassy website: http://srilanka.usembassy.gov or at the Department of State’s Consular Affairs website: http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/registration/registration_1186.html .

As the Department continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its consular information documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov . In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. and Canada or, outside the U.S. and Canada, on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.

Pro-Khomeini imam seeks protection from ‘those who have lost the way’”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A controversial Texas imam who at one point participated in a “tribute to the great Islamic visionary” Ayatollah Khomeini, has offered a prayer to open the state Senate that excluded both Christians and Jews.

“Oh, Allah, guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your wrath or of those who have lost the way,” prayed Imam Yusuf Kavakci of the Dallas Central Mosque.

Islam, of course, teaches that Jews and Christians both have earned the wrath of Allah by failing to follow Islam, and also have lost the way by following the teachings of the Torah for the Jews or the Bible for Christians.”

Accused of blasphemy, an 11 year old boy risks the death penalty[Pakistan-Christians]
AsiaNews.it ^ | 04 April 2007 | Qaiser Felix

Posted on 04/05/2007 7:37:23 PM PDT by Dacb

Toba Tek Singh police open an investigation into blasphemy claims against five local Christians, including 11 year old Daniel. Local activists and priests say the case has been fabricated to target innocent people who have nothing. Christian families barricade themselves in their homes, fear could affect Holy Week celebrations

Among those “guilty of blasphemy” is 11 year old Daniel and the Punjab police are searching the entire province for him. The group of five is accused of disrespecting Mohammad and of having desecrated pieces of paper bearing the prophets name.

One of the five, Salamat Masih, has been arrested while other four are at large. The will all be tried under article 295 C of Pakistan’s Penal Code, the infamous blasphemy law, which provide life imprisonment and death sentence respectively for situations such as these.

Fr Bonnie Mendes a priest of Toba Tek Singh told AsiaNews that “the Christians had done nothing. It is a totally fabricated case against innocent Christians”. Fr bonnie further added that “the situation in the area is tense and people are scared although local police claim the situation is under control”.

Shahbaz Bhatti, chairman All Pakistan Minorities Alliance had strongly condemned the blasphemy charges against five Christians. He urged the government to provide full protection to Christians in TTS and demanded for a judicial inquiry of the incident. Talking to AsiaNews he said “there is only one solution to stop the misuse of this law and that is total repeal of the law. Procedural changes are just paper work and bring no relief to poor people who are still being trapped by extremists just because of this law”.

Fr Mendes explained that it all boils down to a quarrel between families. Local Muslims were offended by the behaviour of the five Christians and during a procession agreed to report them. Not content, they also tried to attack the five during a march. The five saved themselves by running away, but one of the Christians present– Ratan Masih, disabled – did not succeed in fleeing far and was savagely beaten. He is now in hospital.

The day after Salamat Masih’s arrest, local Christians began a campaign asking the authorities to intervene. Moreover, they explain there have been substantial procedural errors made during the, course of investigations: the police has not even investigated the accusations made against the Christians; they simply arrested them on the hearsay of the Muslim’s report.

The government has promised full collaboration and has sent some police to patron the Christian schools and Churches in the area, to avoid extremist reprisals. The delegation then met with some influential Muslim leaders, explaining their situation to them.

Currently, however, the Christian community of Toba Tek Singh is living in fear. Salamat’s family fears for his life, for he risks being attacked by yellow inmates while in prison. Family members avoid leaving their homes, given that the accusations of blasphemy could also be used against them. Despite this the local community is preparing for Easter celebrations which they hope they will be able to conduct without further violence.

Oregon White Supremacist Sentenced to
11 Years in Prison for Attack on Synagogue

WASHINGTON – Jacob Albert Laskey, of Springfield, Ore., was sentenced today to serve 11 years and three months in federal prison for his role in the Oct. 25, 2002, racially-motivated attack on Temple Beth Israel, in Eugene, Ore. The defendant is a self-avowed white supremacist who admitted that he sought to commit acts of violence and destruction against Jews, African-Americans, and members of other ethnic and racial groups, when such opportunities arose. In August 2006, Laskey pleaded guilty to conspiracy to deprive individuals of their civil rights, intentionally damaging religious property, solicitation to murder witnesses, soliciting a bomb threat against the federal courthouse in Eugene, two counts of obstruction of justice, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

“Today’s sentence should provide some measure of solace to the victims, as well as a strong message to those who would commit such heinous crimes born of hatred,” stated Wan J. Kim, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. “The Department of Justice is committed to enforcing the federal laws that prohibit crimes of hate and intolerance, which have no place in our welcoming society.”

“Prosecuting individuals who seek to harm others because of their religion, race or national origin is a top priority of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon and the Department of Justice,” stated United States Attorney Karin Immergut. “We will also aggressively investigate and prosecute those who try to intimidate witnesses from reporting such reprehensible acts to law enforcement.”

According to the plea agreements and statements in court, the defendant conspired with co-defendants Gabriel Doyle Laskey, Gerald Anthony Poundstone, Jesse Lee Baker, and another individual, subsequently determined to be Jereomy Allan Baker, to intimidate Jewish persons at the Temple Beth Israel. The five men traveled to Temple Beth Israel at night in a vehicle driven by Jacob Laskey. They then threw swastika-etched rocks, breaking stained glass windows at the temple, while 80 members of the temple were inside attending a Jewish religious service. After throwing the rocks, the men fled the scene. The defendants acknowledged in court, that their actions violated the victims’ rights to use, hold and occupy religious property free from discrimination. All other co-defendants had previously entered guilty pleas.

Jacob Laskey admitted that following the attack on the synagogue, he obstructed justice by attempting to persuade a witness not to testify against him regarding Laskey’s involvement in the attack. Laskey also admitted soliciting co-conspirator Jesse Baker to kill potential witnesses and to call in a bomb threat to the federal courthouse in Eugene, where the grand jury convened to investigate his case. To prevent Baker from relating information regarding the solicitation to federal investigators, Laskey also admitted to intimidating or attempting to intimidate Baker, between the latter part of 2004 and the early part of 2005.

Regarding the gun charge, Laskey admitted that he had possessed a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and ammunition after having been convicted of two felony crimes, assault in the third degree and racially-motivated battery.

The government’s case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William E. (Bud) Fitzgerald and Civil Rights Division Trial Attorney Roy Conn III. The case was investigated by Special Agents from the Eugene Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Singapore man pleads guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and money laundering
Aided Tamil Tiger terrorists in the attempt to purchase surface-to- air missiles, night vision devices, machine guns and state of the art firearms

Washington—Haniffa Bin Osman 55, a citizen of the Republic of Singapore, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and money laundering.

According to the plea agreement, from April to Sept. 29, 2006, Osman conspired with Haji Subandi and Erick Wotulo to provide state-of-the-art firearms, machine guns and ammunition, surface-to-air missiles, night vision goggles and other military weapons to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (Tamil Tigers) operating within Sri Lanka, to be used to fight against Sri Lankan government forces. The conspirators contacted an undercover business in Maryland about the sale of military weapons, requesting price quotes and negotiating the purchases. Subandi sent an itemized list of 53 military weapons, including sniper rifles, machine guns and grenade launchers, that he wanted to acquire for the Tamil Tigers. Subandi advised the undercover business that Osman would inspect the weapons for the Tamil Tigers. Wotulo also advised that the chief of the Tamil Tigers requested that he and Osman travel to Baltimore to meet with the undercover agents.

“Keeping sophisticated U.S. weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists has never been more important,” said James A. Dinkins, Special Agent in Charge for Baltimore for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “This three-year undercover investigation conducted by ICE, in collaboration with our federal and local law enforcement partners, highlights the reach and impact of international arms trafficking. As this case demonstrates, ICE has no tolerance for international arms brokers looking to equip terrorist organizations with advanced American weaponry.”

“Osman is the third defendant to plead guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, and three defendants have pleaded guilty to attempting to illegally export arms,” said U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. “We will use all available legal tools to prevent terrorism, including undercover operations targeting people who attempt to obtain military weapons in violation of American law.”

In July 2006, Osman met with undercover agents in Baltimore and stated that the weapons were for the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka. Osman said that he was not a Tamil Tigers member but was helping them obtain weapons. The agents showed Osman a variety of weapons, ammunition and night vision devices.

While in Baltimore, Osman discussed the illegality of the transfer of the arms to the Tamil Tigers and provided navigational coordinates for a delivery in the Indian Ocean. Osman stated that if the first transfer of the weapons were successful, the second order could be worth as much as $15 million. Osman also inquired about pricing for unmanned aerial vehicles, and test-fired several weapons, including machine guns and sniper rifles. Osman discussed the commission he would receive for the arms sale. He also raised the possibility that members of the Sea Tigers, the Marine Unit of the Tamil Tigers, would also escort the weapons to their final destination.

On Aug. 1, 2006, Osman told the undercover agents that the Tamil Tigers wired a deposit of $250,000 as a down payment for the purchase of the weapons. Indeed, the next day $250,000 was wired from Malaysia to an undercover bank account in Maryland. Later that month Osman requested that the undercover business provide photographs and technical specifications for surface to air missiles.

Osman arrived in Guam on September 26, 2006, and inspected various machine guns, sniper rifles and ammunition. He also inspected two surface-to-air missiles and agreed to communicate with others within the Tamil Tigers about the availability and pricing of the missiles. After the inspection was completed, Osman agreed to arrange for the transfer of additional money into an undercover bank account in Maryland as further payment for the arms and munitions. On September 28 an additional $452,000 was wired from Malaysia to the undercover account in Maryland as a further down payment on the $900,000 worth of weapons ordered by the Tamil Tigers.

On Sept. 29, 2006, Wotulo arrived in Guam and met with Osman and undercover agents to discuss the ship-board loading of the arms and munitions. They also discussed current and future sales of weapons to the Tamil Tigers with undercover agents. They were then arrested.

Osman faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison for conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and 20 years in prison for money laundering. U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake has scheduled Osman’s sentencing for June 25, 2007, at 9:15 a.m.

Subandi, 70, a citizen of the Republic of Indonesia, pleaded guilty on March 8, 2007, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison for conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization; 20 years in prison for each of two counts of money laundering; and 10 years in prison for attempted exportation of arms and munitions. Judge Blake has scheduled Subandi’s sentencing for June 15, 2007 at 10:30 a.m.

Wotulo, 60, a citizen of the Republic of Indonesia, and a retired Indonesian Marine Corps General, pleaded guilty on February 23, 2007, to conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and money laundering.
