You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
-- Jesus of Nazareth
Alright, FRiends. It's time to walk the talk. It's time to find out whether your faith is or isn't greater than your politics. THIS is the proving ground, and here is the test:
Please pray for Elizabeth Edwards. Pray that the Hand of God will strengthen her as she undergoes treatment. Pray that she will be able to be strong for her children. Pray that her treatment will be inordinately successful; that the grace and mercy of the LORD will be poured out upon her in miraculous healing. Pray that she will be aware from whence her help comes; that she will be drawn to her Healer in the new birth of eternal life. Pray that this bout with cancer will be, for Elizabeth Edwards, her husband, and her children, THE defining and transforming event in ALL of their lives; revolutionizing their understanding of The Holy, and bringing them into fellowship with Him.
That is the truth. Very well said, PilloryHillary.
Exactly
Ahhh, yes, you mean this one:

Well, now that she's got a whole thread JUST for the purpose of urging folks to pray for her, maybe that'll help with visibility, and keep folks reminded of the ongoing need.
And, too, it provides a visible, searchable, centerpoint for updates to the situation. We are, after all, expecting answers to our prayers.
I believed that there'd be many here who would already be including Elizabeth Edwards in their prayers. It's very encouraging to see belief in the character and decency of my fellows on these forums being substantiated by firsthand testimony.
Thank you for being the righteous folk you are.
Further up, and further in!
Thanks for interjecting the "Big Picture" perspective.
I think most decent, caring people have already been praying for Mrs. Edwards. This is one time politics should not be a factor. Also praying for our dear, sweet Tony Snow.
Prayer bump
Aaronic Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you:
The Lord make his Face shine upon you:
and be gracious to you:
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
and give you peace.Amain
I agree and I have. Blessings!!!
Good idea...
Tho I do not agree with her politics, I do pray for her full healing. Cancer is an ugly vicious disease, and would not wish it on my true worst enemy.
Elizabeth Edwards is not my enemy. Neither is her husband, however much I may disagree with his politics and find disgust with his profession. I wish only the best for both of them. It is only the 'tolerant' people such as liberals and Muslims who wish for bad things to befall those with whom they disagree.
Good on you for starting this thread. I'll add my prayers to this.
God doesn't admonish us to forgive His enemies, only our own.
Frankly, I think the Israeli's should kill enough Palestinians until they scream UNCLE.
Love thy neighbor? I guess it depends on the situation, however a good blood letting can often be the moral choice.
Very good idea. I've already prayed for her and her family privately, now I will pray for them in a more public forum. The fact that she has young children tears at my heart. I wish them peace and strength in the days ahead.
You Said:
God doesn't admonish us to forgive His enemies, only our own.
Hyperbole Alert!!!!!
Using Strong Words To Make A Point Begins Now:
Be careful about whom you say are not your enemies...
If they are not your enemies, are you neutral toward them?
Or are you on their side?
In a war, there are only three choices: Ally, Enemy or Neutral.
Remember the famous saying, the converse of which would be: 'The Enemy of my Friend is my Enemy.'
Using Strong Words To Make A Point Ends Here:
I agree, they are MOST CERTAINLY enemies of God.
They are ALSO our enemies (just ask them!).
And, just so that no one misunderstands - Praying for your enemies pretty much necessarily includes praying for their absolute defeat.
If they have a change of heart, and turn to God, they would no longer be His enemies. My prayer is something like this:
Dear God, shower the blessings of your Holy Spirit upon these men, that they may see the evilness of their ways, confess their sins, repent, and receive your bountiful mercy and forgiveness. We ask this in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Amen
She's not my enemy. She's someone with whom I disagree about a lot of things, probably.
