You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
-- Jesus of Nazareth
Alright, FRiends. It's time to walk the talk. It's time to find out whether your faith is or isn't greater than your politics. THIS is the proving ground, and here is the test:
Please pray for Elizabeth Edwards. Pray that the Hand of God will strengthen her as she undergoes treatment. Pray that she will be able to be strong for her children. Pray that her treatment will be inordinately successful; that the grace and mercy of the LORD will be poured out upon her in miraculous healing. Pray that she will be aware from whence her help comes; that she will be drawn to her Healer in the new birth of eternal life. Pray that this bout with cancer will be, for Elizabeth Edwards, her husband, and her children, THE defining and transforming event in ALL of their lives; revolutionizing their understanding of The Holy, and bringing them into fellowship with Him.
Have BEEN praying for her since we first heard the terrible news.
Thanks very much for posting this. I felt compassion for Elizabeth Edwards when I heard the news and I feel compassion for Tony Snow. But I didn't think to pray for her so now I will pray for them both. It is the decent thing to do. One reason that I am a Republican is that by and large I find Republicans very decent people. Presidents Reagan, and Bushes - all of them decent men. We get really pissed off, as we should, at political moronics. But good old-fashioned, traditional deceny is a treasured value among us, so I will pray for the health of our politcal enemies as I do for our political friends.
This is real life, and real life is where we walk it out -- where we prove it -- every single day.
...it's no challenge to pray for someone just because their political perspective is different from mine.
For me neither, but we made a point of it for Tony Snow; we ought not shrink from making a point of it for Elizabeth Edwards.
My bet is that practically all of the praying type of folks here at FR have already been praying for Elizabeth Edwards and her family.
I think you're probably right about that. Still, this is a great object lesson for those who might not have been; an opportunity to get introspective and ask themselves, "Why haven't I?" Maybe somebody will grow in their spiritual maturity as a result of this.
Come to think of it, I bet there are a heckuva lot of FReepers who pray for DUmmies too. They are such depressed people, they need our prayers too.
What a beautifully written paragraph at the top of this thread...just lovely...and yes, of course I'll continue to pray for her and for Tony...my heart goes out to both.
Thanks for starting this, it would be nice if some of the mean, spiteful posters from other sites would happen over here and read our thoughts....that's the difference between "them" and us..
I was thinking the same thing you were about the "enemy" viewpoint. Of course, I prayed for her instantly as I would of hated to loose my precious mother as a child. Losing her to cancer in my 40's was tough enough.
Yes, politically. But you've no idea how many people I've met for whom political emnity was just a step away from bona fide hate-yer-guts emnity.
Abba
Father,
King of the universe
I pray send your Ru'ach HaKodesh
to breath on the soul of Elizabeth Edwards
in her hour of need.
Breathe on Elizabeth Edwards and draw her nearer to you.
I pray that if it be your will have her come to know your Son
I ask that peace be given to her family
I ask these things in the
Holy Name of Your Son
The Word of YHvH:
BShem Yahshua HaMashiach
Amain and amain
I thought the latest news on Tony was more optimistic.
Been doing it since I heard the news.
Excellent. I would hope that most all could say the same. Do continue.
Exactly, I have never had any bad thoughts toward Elizabeth. She seems like a nice lady.
She just made a bad choice in a mate. Lord knows, she isnt the first woman to make a mistake like that.
Indeed Misses Edwards is not an enemy, and I pray for her, her husband, family and friends.
This dread disease called cancer does not respect party affiliation.
Having said that, I desire nothing less than her full recovery and her husbands full defeat.
Maybe so.
Take care!
I pray that God will work miracles in both of these lives, and that He will show Himself as the mighty God that He is. God is no respecter of persons, and it doesn't matter who they are, however because they are both well known, their healing could impact people all over the world. I want to see God show up and show out and make His name glorious!
For the Edwards family, the Snow family and the many families whose names aren't known to us, prayer is the only medicine most of us can offer against this dreadful diagnosis.
We are well advised to do so.
Amen. We are to hate sin, not hate sinners. There's nothing wrong with any sinner spiritually or physically that a miracle can't cure. (We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God!)
And God is in the miracle business.
