PC Newcastle or 'Neo'Conservative' Stockholm - Where would you like to party tonight?
www.youtube.com ^ | 20/07/2007 | ScousePete1

This clip isn't 100% fresh, but some of the girls it features sure are (link below in following post).

PC:ness is becoming outdated in Europe. Intelligent, well educated, succesful Europeans are beginning to turn their backs on it. In Germany, Sweden, France and Britain, Conservatism is on the rise! German Christian Democratic Party (CDU) leader Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, is a good example. Presently, she's achieving what no other politician has achieved for over a decade; bringing about decent economic growth on German soil.

In Sweden, Conservative PM Reinfeldt is tearing down the remnants of the proto-socialist system that turned Sweden - fastest growing economy on earth 1870-1970 - into a unionist governed desert of stagnation in the 1970's and early 1980's (the Social Democrats finally realized their mistake and moved to the right, but Swedes seem to want more rapid improvements, despite - again - enjoying high GDP growth since the early 1990's).

In France and Britain, people are waking up from their 'Eurogloom' slumber. The Tories are likely to win the next election and in France Conservative candidate Sarkozy will probably defeat Socialist Party leader Marie-Ségolène Royal (among other things infamous for launching the idea that the usage of the word 'Mademoiselle' is an act of male chauvinist, sexistic oppression) in the 2007 French presidential election.

But still, some parts of Europe aren't 'getting it'.

For instance, check out the web site of the City Council of Newcastle-upon-Tyne "Best Party City in the UK", England: smokefree legalislation, tax increases, reusing carrier bags and retarded activities 'celebrating' the work of garbage men and tax collectors (Link below).

The (first) link below says it all. Compared to a city like Stockholm - the most affluent and likewise most Conservative city in Sweden - Newcastle isn't much of a 'Party City'.

I’ve been to Newcastle. The people are great, but I’m not impressed with the local politicians. No offense!

"Good news this morning. Thanks."

- Sometimes, I've felt really pessimistic about Europe, but in several European countries a new development is beginning to appear.

Let's hope for the best.

Greetings from Sweden!

"Conservative PM Reinfeldt"

Liberal conservative Moderate Party PM Reinfeldt, you mean? Which supports universal health care?

I've felt really pessimistic about Europe,

Europe sounds like the U.S. circa 1980.

You may laugh -- and I know I will get flamed -- but I'd swear the biggest thing that turned it around for us was the NIV translation of the Bible.

"As long as the people of London keep that crazy Mayor they have ,England is doomed."

- This quote (from his web site) says it all, a beautiful expression of stupidity and megalomania:

'The Mayor's Climate Change Action Plan'

London is a big and influential city alright, but I'm afraid Mayors of London can't do much in order to change the climate. Not even one hundred fancy PR campaigns financed by the tax payers will do the trick.

Remain optimistic. Just think of some of the people we've had as mayor of D.C.

I think it's erroneous to compare Reinfeldt to Liberals in the US.

Reinfeldt wish to steer away from the traditional Swedish Model, while a lot of liberals in the US wishes their country to become like it. They fail to see two important things:

- The Swedish Model has been modified a lot the last 20 years and even Social Democrats/'Socialists' in Sweden admit the way it worked in the period of appr 1970-1990 was unfruitful and limited economic growth.

- Sweden is similar to the US in several ways, but unlike most Europhile US liberals, Swedes belives in sound Capitalism, fiscal discipline and Lutheran work ethics.

To me Conservatism isn't all about taxes, it's mainly about preserving the institutions and features that made Western Civilization the leading one on earth, like freedom of speach, family values, belief in science and education etc, etc. Many Socialists and Liberals are not in touch with these traditions (although Liberals often claim to be) and furthermore fail to see that their celebration of gay rights, environmentalism and multiculturalism is suicidal in the long run.

I don't know much about the NIV version of the Bible, although I understand the basic concept of it.

To begin with, are you saying the NIV has made the message of the Bible more accessible to ordinary US Americans?

"and furthermore fail to see that their celebration of gay rights, environmentalism and multiculturalism is suicidal in the long run"

Fredrik Reinfeldt voted to allow homosexual adoption. I don't think the Moderate Party has an official stance on gays except that they believe they should have equal rights and treatment. I know the Moderate Party's youth league officially supports gay marriage and adoption.

We actually had one good Mayor. Walter Washington.

The rest have been pretty sorry and the one they have now thinks he can micro-manage the whole she-bang.

Believe it or not Sharon Pratt Kelly was the worst.
Yes, Even worse than Marion Barry, She was a disaster.

I wasn't aware of the homosexual adoption bit, thanks for telling me. However, I am aware that Swedish Conservatives are much more friendly to things like abortion, gay rights etc. than most US Republicans.

Personally, I don't think homosexuality is 'natural'. There might be a biological explanation to the phenomena, but I can't see how homosexuality could be viewed as normal. It's very ABnormal to me.

I don't understand why gay rights would be an important issue to any heterosexual person. We have no reason to support their abnormal lifestyle. While we, normal persons, are here on this earth, we have the duty to defend and preserve our nations and our culture. That is our mission.

I couldn't care less about their 'rights', although their abnormality at the same time does not legitimate violent assaults and such things.

D.C. once had a corrupt, drug-addled screwball running it that made Ken Livingston look sane. One's capital can be run by fools without it ruining the country.

OK, I was thinking of Marion :-)

Philly hasn't had a good mayor since Rizzo.
