Here's a heads up for the Giuliani campaign. It's coming. It's coming very soon. Beware. Run for your lives! As I write this, there is plotting going among grassroots religious conservatives in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina and many other states. They want to take down Rudy and they plan to do everything in their power to do it. I received this email from an influential Republican activist who, lets just say, has an extensive mailing list among the conservative grassroots network. Here's what he told me:
"If Rudy Giuliani is put up for President by the Stupid Party, I will work 40 hours a week as a volunteer to destroy his candidacy for President; that is how important the prolife position -- and other social issues-- is to many people of faith. Sure, the Evil Party might get control of the White House again, and the Stupid Party might therefore go the way of the Whig Party in the early 1800's, but so be it. The Republican Party must NEVER nominate a pro-abortion candidate. That would be far worse than the Republican Party putting up a pro-slavery candidate in the mid-1800's. That is how strong many of us feel David. Many of us will also be putting in 40 hours a week during the primary/caucus season to defeat Giuliani at all costs."
Tough words. Don't think for a second that these activists aren't serious. They are. They know Rudy is getting some traction from social conservatives and they are not going to take for granted that Giuliani will fade once his views are known. As these activists galvanize, they could star in a movie.
I don't think Rudy's the magic candidate you think he is. While he may gain votes in a few of the more moderate red states, he'll lose votes among the #1 GOP voting bloc in a big chunk of the country....southern/midwestern Christians.....due to his moral shortcomings, among other stances on important issues. He's ruled a liberal enclave and has had to say things and take stances during that rule that can and will beused against him in the fall. If anything sinks him, that's it.
Read another way, I don't think he "gets out" the conservative Christian vote.....and he'd needs to do that to win just the primary, let alone the general.
I actually can't wait until the real campaigning starts in the fall. All these fundraising speeches drive me nuts. I want debates.
"I'll have to leave both boxes blank if that's the case."
Then leave both boxes blank. We need victory in '08, not ideological perfection. We stand a far better chance of defending our values if Republicans win the election than if they surrender the field to the enemy by refusing to back the most viable candidate.

If you think the South would elect Hillary over Rudy, you're dreaming. Rudy is polling well everywhere--especially in the South, the Northeast, the mid-Atlantic, and the West Coast. My own blue state, PA, has Rudy in a significant lead over Hillary--and this is not likely to change since both candidates are already so well known. Besides, most Christian voters have become astute politicians--realistic enough to realize that to avoid disaster in '08 we need to field a very powerful candidate.

Sorry for the double post.
I will vote third party rather then vote for a liberal rino.
We're not electing a pope. Nobody cares what Rudy's private morals are--except foolish Republicans who would rather hand the election over to the enemy than achieve victory with a morally impure, but super-capable, candidate. That's nuts.
I don't have to worry, but we do need to pray.
I'm thinking Rudy's gonna have a difficult time in the primaries in the South over "fill in the blank with a non-Rudy/McCain GOP candidate (both the frontrunners will have the same South problem)" long before he would ever have to face Hillary.....but in closely contested southern/midwestern states like FLORIDA, he'll not get the vote out in the manner he needs to to win those states because he just won't energize the Christian vote. It comes down to who can get the votes out and I don't see him convincing Christians...southern Christians that he's their guy enough to get ALL of 'em out like he needs to.
I get it, you support the guy and think he's some sort of magic candidate that will win in a landslide, taking away all these blue states that nobody else can, and return the Congress to the GOP. Tall order.
I'd like to see the blue states he'd win. CA, OR, WA, MN, IL, WI are lost. ME, MA, NH, VT is lost. MD, DE are lost. That leaves PA, NJ, and NY...and FL and OH as maybes. MI might be up for grabs with the right candidate.
Swing states are OH, FL, PA and all polling I've seen shows them within the margin of error of the poll....statistical tie.
I don't see it happening....but my biggest beef with this article is the notion of actively trying to sink Rudy based on one's feelings on one issue (assuming he won the primary), allowing Hill to rule the roost for 8 years...as a viable notion of "victory".
Ugh.....
"but in closely contested southern/midwestern states like FLORIDA, he'll not get the vote out in the manner he needs to to win those states because he just won't energize the Christian vote."
You're talking through your hat. Number one: the Italian-American electorate represents one-tenth of the voting populace--and it's concentrated on the East and West coasts, including FL, as well as the mid-Atlantic states like OH and PA. Rudy polls spectacularly well in these places as well as in places like Iowa and MN. CA and OR are NOT lost--and neither are the Southern states once he gets past the primaries. In fact, one of the most remarkable features of his candidacy is how well he's polling right now among Christian evangelicals down south. That's been a surprise to many--though not to me. In the final analysis the need to defeat the Democrats in '08 supercedes absolute ideological purity.
I too prefer someone other than Rudy - but will not work to put the dims in charge of everything.
I thought there would be enough voters' remorse by now but I guess we are going to have to have taxes raised, amnesty passed, the return of the fairness doctrine etc. to possibly bring that to pass.
There's been a lot of Bible quoting on this thread. Do the quoters really think God wants islam appeased or even surrendered to?
Think people before you throw around vows to work for the defeat of (fill in the blank).
You can't be serious.
Sorry, that's "you can't be series".

You're one of the few. Most Giuliani supporters on this site are taking great pains to tear down Hunter and Gingrich. An example is how the babies love to call him Duncan Hines. Why? What did he ever do to them, other than have the audacity to be the most conservative candidate in the race? If he doesn't have a chance, as they say, then he doesn't hurt Giuliani in the least. So, why the hate for a good guy?
