US tells Syria to stop bombers crossing into Iraq

WASHINGTON, March 27 (Reuters) - Washington estimates up to 90 percent of suicide bombers in Iraq enter the country via Syria which has not acted to stop this flow of attackers, the U.S. State Department's Iraq adviser said on Tuesday.

David Satterfield, who is Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's key adviser on Iraq, said Syria had an obligation to stop "jihadists" crossing into Iraq where suicide bombings are an almost daily occurrence.

He estimated 90 percent of suicide bombers in Iraq were foreigners and while the mix of nationalities changed, some 85 to 90 percent of them crossed over from Syria.

"They (suicide bombers) see Syria as a more accommodating country through which to transit across the border to come into Iraq to perpetrate their terror," Satterfield said in a speech to the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, .

"It has to stop, it is not in Syria's long term interests to let this violence continue," he added.

Syria has denied it allows insurgents to cross over from their territory into Iraq.

Is Jimmy Carter available to monitor the border AND register them to vote at the same time?

Empty words that the Syrians and their lackeys will simply ignore.

They've said this every 3 months or so for five years

Why is the Bush Admin making a mockery of our nation?

Bush doesn't do borders, we know that.

Is there a reason Syria should do this? Why are we STILL complaining about the border 4 years after the invasion? There should have been a plan to close it in the beginning! Our purpose was to keep WMD's from getting out of Iraq so why was that not part of the plan. It was a screw up from the word go!

We just have to drop a few bombs on old Bashar and he'll get the message loud and clear.

We should give any captured coming across a fair military trial and send them back to the Syrian Parliament building from 10,000 ft. What's Syria going to say?

"Stop bombing us with the people who came over to bomb you"?
"Stop terrorizing these suicide bombers"?
"Stop brutalizing these terrorist"?
"Stop making us look weak and complacent every time we complain"?

How many times have we told them to stop? Maybe a letter stating that we will be really mad at them if they do not stop!

They are immigrant jihadists, just looking to work hard and blow themselves up and access the opportunitys in Iraq.

How insensitive can you be to their plight!

The United States just does not get the whole "border" concept at ALL.

"tsk tsk tsk...... please don't do that"

Those are the toughest words you will hear from the US State Dept. if you are a jihad-sponsoring government helping to kill thousands of our own troops and many thousands more of Iraq's civilian population.

What happened to the "Bush Doctrine"????

Colin Powell and Condi Rice have been a grave disappointment, but then they do not exactly seem to have gotten backbone implants from above.

They would listen if we matched them bomber for bomber. Except ours would be B1s, B2s and B52s.
