FEWER BACK GAY COUPLES (Civil unions backlash in New Jersey: poll shows drop in support)

Although New Jersey recently enacted legislation allowing same-sex couples to form civil unions, support for gay couples among Hudson County residents is substantially lower than it was in 2003, when the first cases seeking recognition of gay marriage were filed, according to a recent The Jersey Journal/New Jersey City University poll.

The poll shows that 42.2 percent of respondents support civil unions, 29.7 percent oppose them and 28 percent either did not respond or said they were not sure.

-- SNIP --

In a poll taken in 2003, before any state or municipality had permitted gay marriages, 55 percent of Hudson respondents supported same-sex marriage, which goes a step further than civil unions by also conferring the title of marriage upon gay couples.

But after San Francisco made headlines in 2004 by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, an NJCU poll showed that support for same-sex couples had dipped, with 47.8 percent of respondents supporting same-sex marriage.

With this latest poll - which was taken shortly after New Jersey legalized civil unions - yielding the lowest percentage of support yet, Chadwick and Moran discerned a trend from the three polls: "As the issue. received more attention from media and political figures, residents of the county reconsidered their initial support of gay marriage."

In a follow-up question in the latest poll, respondents were asked to speculate about the impact that same-sex civil unions might have on New Jersey's reputation nationwide.

A shade under 29 percent believed that they would adversely effect New Jersey's reputation, while 17.7 percent said it would improve it; and 53.4 percent believed it would either have no effect, didn't know what effect it would have, or didn't answer the question.

This is a very interesting phenomenon that we should all bear in mind when we view polls regarding gay marriage, civil unions or just homosexuality in general. When there's a highly publicized pro-gay thing that happens in a state, for instance, support for homosexual stuff tends to drop. As the poll states, back in 2003, support for full-blown gay marriage in this county stood at 55% in Hudson County. Now, support for the even less controversial civil unions has plunged to just 42.2%.

While that's higher than other parts of the country, it's food for thought when you consider that when a court order or something comes, it can cause opposition to shoot up. This means that opposition to gay rights, etc, is probably much higher in the US than most polls suggest. Very interesting.

Perhaps it was just the public spectacle of their former governor that sickened them of the idea.

I was about to award "duh of the week" but I misread the headline. I thought it said "black".

When are we going to stop allowing the homosexuals to hijack the language and stop calling them what they aren't (gays) and start calling them what they are (queers)?

AWESOME FACTS ABOUT FRED THOMPSON

* Fred Thompson has blasted more people in the face with a shotgun than even Dick Cheney.

* The masked executioner of Saddam Hussein: Fred Thompson.

* Every night before going to sleep, Osama bin Laden checks under his bed for Fred Thompson.

* Fred Thompson took over what was Al Gore's Senate seat, thereby dramatically reducing the Senate's carbon footprint. Fred Thompson then created carbon offset offsets by wastefully burning hippies.

* Fred Thompson reconsidered running for reelection after 9/11 but later decided to handle things on his own. He was soon seen entering the Middle East with a bottle of tequila in one hand an a handgun in the other. They're still counting the dead.

* Fred Thompson once ended a filibuster by ripping out a Senator's heart and showing it to him before he died.

* The actual cause of global warming: Fred Thompson's burning rage.

* Fred Thompson once stood on our south border and glared at Mexico. There was no illegal immigration for a month.

* Scientists predict that when Fred Thompson dies he'll explode taking out the five nearest planets before collapsing into a black hole.

* If you purchase a weather radio, it will wake you up with an alarm to warn you when Fred Thompson is pissed off.

* Webster's Dictionary defines "conservatism" as "how closely one's views resemble those of Fred Thompson."

* Fred Thompson's sense of strategy is so great that he can checkmate you using only a pawn and a knight.

* When terrorists get to the afterlife, they'll find that none of their seventy-two women are still virgins. Why? Because of Fred Thompson.

* Why does Iran want nuclear weapons? Out of fear of Fred Thompson.

I've tried to find more information on this poll, the link does not say anything about sample size. Being as the residents of only one county are poll subjects, I'd bet that we're looking at a very small sample size here. Anybody who's studied statistics knows that you can get widely divergent results by using too small a sample.

It would also help to know the sample size of the previous poll this one is being compared with. It's always good to match apples with apples, and not with oranges.

Too many of the polls are fabrications of organizations with agenda's. Questions are carefully worded to achieve results desired opposed to truth. I put no creedence in any poll no matter how well founded the purveyor.

I am my own poll

How can anyone other than the homosexuals themselves support something that is so repulsive. Amen.

This also displays how to game polls.

For example thy pool the "did not answer" with the people who provided the answer "do not know"

I bet if we compare the two polls with the people question each time we will find the flaws.

FEWER BACK GAY COUPLES (Civil unions backlash in New Jersey: poll shows drop in support)

Dang!! I wonder why??

Genesis 13:13       Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and
their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed,
all the men from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight?
Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends.
Don't do this wicked thing.

Psalms 12:8      The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Ain't this just FABULOUS??      More?

Isaiah 3:9   The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50.
They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

But there IS hope!!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

 9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape.....

an NJCU poll showed that support for same-sex couples had dipped, with 47.8 percent of respondents supporting same-sex marriage.

Considering the fact that "same-sex marriage" is a contradiction in terms, half the state is insane.
