Hey - he's got his own "wikipedia" page ...
David_Hicks

"David Matthew Hicks (born August 7, 1975), also referred to as
Abu Muslim al-Austraili and Mohammed Dawood while in Afghanistan,
is an Australian who was captured in Afghanistan and has been held
prisoner as an unlawful combatant by the United States Government
at Guantánamo Bay since his capture.

According to the U.S. government, Hicks served as a common foot soldier
with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

David Hicks was born in Adelaide, South Australia,
In 1999, Hicks traveled to Albania, where he joined the Kosovo Liberation Army,
fighting against Serbian forces in the Kosovo War.

On returning to Australia Hicks applied to join the Australian Army but was rejected.
Hicks then converted to Islam and began to study Arabic.
On 11 November 1999 Hicks traveled to Pakistan to study Islam.
After a period of time he began training with the Lashkar-e-Toiba
learning guerrilla warfare, weapons training, kidnapping techniques,
and assassination methods.

In a March 2000 letter, Hicks told his family "don't ask what's happened,
I can't be bothered explaining the outcome of these strange events has
put me in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir in a training camp."

US military prosecutors have alleged Hicks "attended a number of
al-Qaeda training courses at various camps around Afghanistan,
including an advanced course on surveillance, in which he conducted
surveillance of the US and British embassies in Kabul, Afghanistan".
They claim that, on an occasion when al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden
visited an Afghan camp, Hicks questioned bin Laden about the lack
of English in training material and subsequently "began to translate
the training camp materials from Arabic to English". Hicks wrote home
that he'd met Osama bin Laden 20 times, later telling investigators
that he'd exaggerated. He'd seen bin Laden about eight times and
spoken to him only once.

He was captured by a "Northern Alliance warlord" on or about December 9, 2001,
near Kunduz, Afghanistan, and turned over to US Special Forces for
$1000 on December 17, 2001.

Hicks facing Indian probe over Kashmir shootingBy Chris Merritt and Bruce Loudon

DAVID Hicks, already facing the possibility of 20 years' jail on terrorism charges in the US, is the subject of a new investigation by the Indian Government over his attacks on their armed forces in Kashmir.

The investigation has been triggered by disclosures in American prosecution files about the involvement of Hicks with a terrorist group that has killed thousands of people in the disputed Indian territory of Kashmir.
The prosecution file states that the former kangaroo skinner and father of two who converted to Islam joined the terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba in Pakistan, travelled to the border with Indian Kashmir in 2000 and fired on Indian troops.

Reports of the American disclosures were sent to New Delhi this week by the Indian deputy high commissioner to Australia, Vinod Kumar.

Senior officials in New Delhi yesterday confirmed they were examining that material.

"We're looking into it and finding out the facts," an official in New Delhi told The Weekend Australian.

"If Mr Hicks was involved with them at any level, and if he was indeed firing weapons at our troops, then, most certainly, we'd like to talk to him about it.

"We'd be interested to talk to anyone who has done that. We don't take kindly to attacks on our soldiers -- even attacks by people like Mr Hicks."

The American file is consistent with a letter Hicks wrote to his family in Adelaide in which he admits to firing hundreds of bullets in Kashmir at the enemies of Islam.

In a March 2000 letter, Hicks told his family "don't ask what's happened, I can't be bothered explaining the outcome of these strange events has put me in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in a training camp. Three months training. After which it is my decision whether to cross the line of control into Indian-occupied Kashmir."

The training camp was run by Lashkar-e-Toiba, the army of the pure, Islamic fundamentalists fighting to free Muslims under Indian rule and designated a terrorist group by Australia in 2003.

In another letter on August 10, 2000, Hicks wrote from Kashmir, claiming to have been a guest of Pakistan's army for two weeks at the front in the "controlled war" with India.

"I got to fire hundreds of bullets. Most Muslim countries impose hanging for civilians arming themselves for conflict. There are not many countries in the world where a tourist, according to his visa, can go to stay with the army and shoot across the border at its enemy, legally."

Australia has an extradition relationship with India as a fellow member of the Commonwealth that could allow the transfer of a suspect in special circumstances.

Hicks has been detained at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba since being captured in Afghanistan in 2001 where he was fighting alongside Taliban forces.

US prosecutors last week announced Hicks will face a US Military Commission to answer new charges of attempted murder and providing material support to a terrorist organisation.

LET has waged a brutal insurgency aimed specifically at "destroying" India and "annihilating" Hinduism and Judaism, having proclaimed Hindus and Jews to be enemies of Islam.

It has over the years - including 2000 when Hicks was apparently in action with it - waged a war not just targeting Indian troops in Kashmir, but also rounding up Hindus and Sikhs in the disputed territory and massacring them.

LET militants in 2000 massacred 35 Sikhs in the village of Chittisinghpura.

Since hostilities broke out in earnest in Kashmir in 1989, an estimated 5000 Indian soldiers and paramilitaries have been killed. Estimates are, too, that 80,000-odd civilians have perished, and hundreds of thousands of others have been displaced from their homes...

----

I hope to see him extradited to India.

Sorry bud, love Pink Floyd and I'll be seeing Waters perform in Milwaukee at Summerfest but I wish he would strap this fool to that pig when he blows it up in concert!

No surprise there, "our side" (Clinton's "side") in Kosovo "Wag the Dog" bombing campaign was the side of Muslim terrorist organization KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army). Still no reconciliation or constitution there and UN is still mired and bogged down over there trying to figure out what to do.

Just yesterday I was checking out some reader comments on an Aussie newspaper's website (I forget which paper) and the leftists were still trying to claim there was no evidence against the kangaroo-skinning jihadi and that his incarceration was a grave injustice, etc. (Thankfully there were plenty of sensible Aussie blokes telling the leftist yutzes to stuff it, including one who signed off as Man-boobs Bashir.) I wonder if this guilty plea will serve to silence some of these preposterous criticisms of the "lack of due process" afforded Hicks.

News from around the Commonwealth [Mark Steyn]

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ODNmNmEwNWFhOGYzNTdmNjU0ZmU4NGQ0MWY1YmIxNGU=

A couple of notes for the various subjects of the Crown around The Corner:

(snip)
3) The Australian Taliban pleads guilty

For years, David Hicks’ detention in Guantanamo has made him the pin-up boy of the Aussie left. It’s not just that he’s now confessed his guilt, but that, as Tim Blair notes , his physical condition is the exact opposite of how it’s been reported: instead of being pale, gaunt, sunken-cheeked and hollow-eyed, he’s put on weight and has a glowing tan as healthy as his lawyer’s. I don’t know whether Mr Hicks was among the prisoners Rich and I glimpsed on our trip to Gitmo last year, but the Afghans I saw were certainly on the plump side by the standards of most wiry Pushtun warriors. There are arguments to be made about whether this is the right form of detention for those captured, but the accusation of widespread ill-treatment and abuse is absurd and refuted by the physical condition of almost everyone there.
