Have a Pizza, Humiliate a Dad

By Glenn Sacks

Pizza boxes with “Wanted” posters for child support debtors.

Amazing how creative government agencies can be when they’re trying to enforce child support. This is coupled with their mulish, “Gee whiz, we can’t solve that” attitude towards enforcing visitation rights. The Fox News story below details the latest creative effort from child support enforcement to beat child support out of men.

Some of these men may be legitimate “deadbeats,” but many are either: victims of a system which demands that they pay beyond their means; victims of a system which demands money of them without enforcing their parenting time and granting them fair custody rights; both.

As I’ve noted in numerous stories, the “Most Wanted Deadbeat Parents” lists put out by many states illustrate this problem. Far from being lists of well-heeled businessmen, lawyers, and accountants, the vast majority of the men on these lists do low wage and often seasonal work, and owe large sums of money which they could never hope to pay off. Even a person with a college degree is a rare find on these lists.

The Fox News article pushes the myth that there is $100 billion in cumulative child support debt owed. As I’ve explained before, this debt is wildly inflated by numerous factors, and only a distinct minority of it reflects the actions of true “deadbeats.” I detailed some of these issues in my co-authored column Federal Child Support Enforcement Cuts Will Hurt Bureaucrats, not Children (Las Vegas Review-Journal and others, 12/17/05).

There’s also a nice quote in the Fox News story from Mike McCormick, Executive Director of the American Coalition for Fathers and Children.

Have a Slice, Report a Deadbeat: Child Support Suspects Pictured on Pizza Boxes Sunday , March 25, 2007 Fox News

Customers at some suburban pizza parlors are getting something extra with their pepperoni and mushrooms — wanted posters for parents accused of failing to pay child support.

The idea came to Cynthia Brown, executive director of the Butler County Child Enforcement Agency, while she was ordering pizza.

“It suddenly dawned on me that most people running from the law don’t eat out, they order pizza,” said Brown, whose county is north of Cincinnati.

Enforcement agencies across the country use a variety of methods to locate support scofflaws and collect past-due payments. Virginia has issued subpoenas to cellular phone companies seeking addresses and phone numbers. California’s Kern County seizes and auctions parents’ vehicles, with proceeds going to the children, said Kay Cullen, a spokeswoman for the National Child Support Enforcement Association.

State child support agencies collected more than $23 billion in child support for 17.2 million children in 2005, but the cumulative past-due child support since the agencies were first formed more than 30 years ago is $106 billion, Cullen said.

“While we have made progress, putting the wanted posters on pizza boxes is an example of the innovation and commitment that we need,” she said.

Other Ohio counties put posters on their Web sites and work with local Crime Stoppers programs, and a few contract with companies that can track people through rental and cell phone records, according to the Ohio Child Support Directors Association. Some include fliers in water and sewer bills. (more…)

Before all the feminazis respond, remember that men in these situations have been stripped of all of their constitutional rights.

I won't hold my breath.

They are going to get some pizza delivery person murdered.

It's already a dangerous job.

Child support is a huge scam and a job-generating machine for governments. I'm glad me and my daughter's mother have a handshake agreement and left on good terms. We avoided the courts altogether.

You mean that quaint and out-dated custom of 'Innocent until proven guilty'?

That doesn't apply to white males.

Always great to attack these terrible dads...but in my state, they will laugh at you if you ask them if they go to these measures to track down dead beat moms.

"'It suddenly dawned on me that most people running from the law don’t eat out, they order pizza,' said Brown, whose county is north of Cincinnati."

Hmmm. Divorcing mothers probably order pizza deliveries more than do divorced dads.

The death penalty for adultery would solve the problem at its root, IMO.

"The Fox News article pushes the myth that there is $100 billion in cumulative child support debt owed."

Yeah, how dare those "deadbeats" owe this much money and keep it from the state tax agencies who collect it. After all, these states could use that money to help fund Bush's 20 million ILLEGAL "guests" from Mexico. Don't those no-good deadbeats understand that 100 billion dollars will pay for cheap college education for illegals, and pay for their health care, driver's licences, housing, and incarceration in state prisons?

Man, talk about having priorities ass backwards in our country. Instead of hunting down men who have been screwed over by their ex wives and by the thoroughly corrupt "family" courts, they need to hunt down the 20 million illegals and the 600,000 deported criminals which the government just admitted they don't know the status of. So let's get creative with hunting down the illegals. Maybe the state tax agencies can put their faces on every Taco Bell sandwich wrap. But no, the government would consider that to be "insulting" and un-PC. It's only those home grown males that they can legally and self rightiously put the screws to.

I find this wrong in all sorts of ways.....I know there are some less then stellar dads out there who do not fulfill their obligations but I also know there are plenty of moms out there using their kids as pawns because they are ticked off with dad and the entire planet.

I am thankful for the parents that in spite of a divorce they put the kids first and no games are played.
