They Found 88 Problems, and the Dancer Was Just One
The Chronical On-Line (Duke) ^ | 16 March 07 (updated) | Steve Veres

Posted on 03/23/2007 6:35:33 AM PDT by SkyPilot

This is their story.

This is the story of professors who tried to listen to their students and sparked a shouting match that overpowered any original statement.

This is the story of how an 832-word advertisement in a student newspaper sparked thousands of vitriolic, misogynist and racist e-mails and became a national media spectacle.

This is the story of how faculty received phone calls in the middle of the night, endured mail fraud and overcame death threats for speaking out.

Many view the "Group of 88"--as the signatories were eventually dubbed by bloggers--as a symbol of the community prejudging the lacrosse team. Of the out-of-touch ideals of academia. Of hate.

They have been accused of damaging the very same campus culture they intended to address, of forcing President Richard Brodhead to cancel the remaining games of the lacrosse season, of spurring District Attorney Mike Nifong to indict.

How did it reach this point?

"When you take a political stance, this is what happens sometimes-people resist that," says Diane Nelson, associate professor of cultural anthropology. "None of us want pity."

"I, for one, did not think through all of the unintended consequences, nor did I believe almost a year later it would be dissected in the Chronicle of Higher Education and the subject of such acrimony," says Lee Baker, another associate professor of cultural of anthropology and chair of the Arts and Sciences Council.

These professors have made it clear that they lack the objectivity and intellectual seriousness to teach anyone anything.

Given the enormous cost of credit hours at a school like Duke, any student who wastes thousands of dollars taking a class from any of these idiots is a sucker of the highest order.

You could close down the 4-5 schools/colleges most heavily represented, in every university in the nation, and markedly improve the average education level of the country.

Notice that out of the 88 only two are from math and one from physics. All the rest are from disciplines notorious for their esteem of self-promoting spin and political wankerism.

I am sure they suffer a drop in applications by better students as long as Richard Brodhead is the contracts of those 88 are renewed - they cannot fire those who have tenure.

It would be good if we could get pics of all the Gang of 88 and post them here or online. I bet the gang wouldn’t like it. Course I am shy and don’t want attention. These in gang would probably thrive on attention.

These three:

Lee, Dan A. (Math)
Petters, Arlie (Math)
Plesser, Ronen (Physics)

should be terminated immediately.

The other 85 have the excuse of ignorance. They could not master a hard science or an academic field requiring intellectual rigor. But Lee, Petters and Plesser teach *real* subjects — disciplines that get people killed if they are not taught properly. If people want to be intectually lazy they should go into fields where it does not really matter — things like cultural anthropology, women’s studies and visual studies. If they cross over into the hard sciences they need to be plucked out like weeds.

"I, for one, did not think through all of the unintended consequences,

Leftists never do think about consequences, nor do they care about consequences.

Mommy and Daddy never held them responsible for their dumb, destructive choices growing up - why should anybody think they'd take responsibility for their stupidity as adults?

These people make a good salary - teaching nothing.

Women's Studies? Romance Studies? Chicano Studies? African Studies?

This isn't a pursuit for knowledge. Parents are paying $50,000 a year to send their children to this?

An amazing list of leftist profs! They all have something in common. They all “teach” in the schools of Letters, Arts and Sciences which should be re-named Letters, Arts and Socialism. The Science team should separate themselves from Letters and Arts or be contaminated by the commie weirdos, not only at Duke, but very other university where Karl Marx is still taught and embraced by such far left idiots as those on the list.

Well, that's a finely-tuned mind sharpened by countless debates and international conferences, a receptacle of the accumulated wisdom of the ages, the product of decades of intense study and professional training, the artisan who will mold young minds into tools for the future... that is a tenured professor at one of the elite universities in the entire world! (#32, STJU, 2006 rankings)

You mean you can't see that?
