Exactly my thoughts. Marines are out in an inflatable and NO cover? Nobody watching the radar?

If the Brits were actually in Iraqi waters they should have every right to defend themselves from an Iranian incursion up to and including opening fire first.

The current ROE are really going to allow our forces to be sucker-punched big time one day.

FoxTabloidTrash4News has become unwatchable.

I watch the morning headlines to catch up any over-night news and turn it off at the first mention of ANS. It is unbelieveable that they have been running Alerts on ANS for nearly 5 weeks.

But they need a military pride thing badly, as their public needs to be pacified and anger misdirected away from the French government's failures.

I agree, picking and winning a fight with a worthy adversary would boost national moral but does Cameroon have any naval assets in the area?

What's real? your defending "Iranian territorial integrity"?

or calling the brits spys?

Or maybe it's your goal to cast Iranian spin on the media in this story?

If this was enough provocation to cover Bush ordering a pre-planned general attack, we would move on our own schedule, with the centerpiece being certain time sensitive elements.

I'm not sure that this is casus belli, the Iranians were smart or lucky to seize UK and not US personnel.

Right this minute, I'm more concerned about targeting radars, aircraft without IFF transponders and the like triggering an "incident".

Back when we were spooled up during the Iran-Iraq war, response time to tanker provocations ran 24 to 48 hours. Right now, Monday or Tuesday is probably earliest for a planned "tit for tat" response, there'd need to be high level back and forth between the US and UK, we're still 3 to 11 days out on carrier number three, and "incidents" are possible at any time.

For the record...

Iran != Iraq
ROE (Rules Of Engagement) != ROI (Return On Investment)

Iraqi Deputy PM attack thought to be an inside job, for the bomber to get that close to the Deputy PM.

Bomber thought be affiliated/working for al=Qaeda.

"But they need a military pride thing badly, as their public needs to be pacified and anger misdirected away from the French government's failures."

What happened to France creating Security Circus II, Victory to Iran, the sequel to the popular Security Circus, Victory to Saddam which came out in 2002? I thought the De Gaul was positioned to stage operations into Afghanistan?

Remember the story a couple of days ago where certain types of people are supposed to infiltrate various sites and cause dissension and try to sway their way of thinking? Hell, must be my paranoia kicking up again.

You wrote in post # 156: "IB4TZ!"

You mistook this thread as a vanity thread and I corrected you by saying that this is a real story, not a vanity one.

I hope this clears up everything.

Agree wholeheartedly with both points, sir!

Especially in light of the "legacy" left us by that continuing national disgrace - Carter - from an even more outrageous act of provocation by the Iraniacs in '79.

Too bad the "proper response" wasn't taken back then; we wouldn't be seeing thesee headlines today...

Does the UK have any balls?

Unfortunately the owner of them is not longer in office and in poor health.

Prayers for the captured sailors and those who love them.

The Lynx helo was up. What do you think they are going to do? No shots were fired by the Iranians. The Lynx isn't going to violate Iranian airspace and HMS Cornwall isn't going to follow. Unfortunately it becomes a diplomatic incident.

A U.S. Navy spokesman has just said on TV that the Coalition forces showed proper and prudent restraint by not escalating the incident into a shooting match. His name was Commander Kevin Aandhal.
