John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

I kind of put this in the same catagory of people who have just had someone killed or died by accident...but, getting on talk shows....
Just too bizarre...and then his use of the phrase, "we are not going to cower in the corner"..

Exactly, If it was me, I would have issued a press announcement that my wife's cancer has returned and she is going to be treated and I am dropping out of my campaign to care for my wife and family at this time. Not some long drawn out press conference like he did.
Rush just played a clip of someone talking to Chris Matthews...saying that this is "their way of showing bravery to the country...and what they will do FOR the country"
He went on to say that though some expected him to suspend his campaign...the fact that Edwards didn't do that..and announced instead that he/they are going on, it "is a tent strike"...and a brilliant political move.
BTW...That was Howard Fineman telling the above to Chris Matthews!!

She didn't look like she was in a joking mood.
He has NO CLUE what she is going through..and I really question how much he cares.
Which proves my idea this whole thing was less about his wife's illness and more about getting some leverage in the campaign, If true, that is sick..

I have no idea...but I heard Fineman say that to Chrissy...and then went on to praise the presser/decision as a brilliant campaign move.
So...I am assuming that is a campaign term for a successful campaign stop...
I can't imagine Elizabeth getting in front of the camera. She looks exhausted.
