John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. Itll be another couple of days before theres complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."
Oh...jeez...I didn't know the presser took place at the very spot they were married...
pitiful.
My lurking at DU was a sobering experience. As a reformed liberal, I can hardly believe how much that ideology has changed. When I was a liberal, it wasn't about hatred or name calling or vulgarity. We believed very passionately in causes [some of them good causes, some woefully mistaken] and worked to bring about what we perceived as a good end. Nowadays, liberals seem to do little more than vie with each other to out-hate anyone who disagrees with them even nominally. It has become so ugly and evil, it is just hard for me to believe the bottom hasn't fallen out, and people haven't turned away in droves.
No, he won't -- and you know that.
People will say they're a wonderful dedicated couple, that they represent the best of America, that he's fighting for her, that she's a wonderful person to give him up to the country, that he wants everybody to be able to get the kind of care she's getting.
"At this point, surgery is not an option for her," Dr. Lisa Carey,
Elizabeth Edwards' oncologist, told reporters. She said that in
addition to the bone, it is possible the cancer had spread to a
lung, but additional tests will be needed.
Odd conjecture by a physician in a press conference. More bad news if true.
It was just strange. It seemed he was turning her illness into a campaign issue.
Women will want to know why he's not with his wife.
I just pray to God that the first time it comes up it's not out of the mouth of a conservative pundit or Pat Robertson, et al.
How's that for staging and drama? Good grief. Some things still surprise me.
The presser was held at the Carolina Inn, where they had their wedding reception. I recognized the building immediately.
"...mentioning that he had hit her." ????
He hit her???
I guess I am holding out hope that he is not a complete pig
Though I will admit .. I wouldn't be surprised if I turned out to be wrong
As for the other stuff .. I am sure the media will spin it
But he would not get the votes
Remember the reaction about that bogus story about Newits wife??
Groan. That would really be handing him the baton.
Not just women. I just talked to the Big Mew, who's appalled. Do they still have young ones at home? Because if so, those kids are going to need even more love and support.
Sympathy only goes so far --- he'll milk it to the last drop. It's news today, but from tomorrow onward, he'll be mostly speaking to democrats at fund raisers.
If our side says one damn thing about this I'll scream
Absolutely. Just hand him the keys.
And all we'd hear on FR is how it was the truth so why not say it!!!!
Okay, but why did they say that it is incurable but treatable? Does that mean they can slow the growth or just make her more comfortable?
Yes, like 8 and 6, or maybe 10 and 8 now......not sure.
both
You know they will. Brace yourself. The 'real, true' consevative prigs won't be able to contain themselves.
