John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. Itll be another couple of days before theres complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."
Your sister waa a very courageous woman, Howlin. None of us knows for sure what we would do until the time comes to decide. I am glad for her and all her family that she survived those 3 years.
yes
Yes, you have it right and with her blessing. The country "needs" him.
DU is a garbage dump. Isn't is odd, though, that whenever the press reports on hateful, vile web sites full of nuts, FR is the one that is mentioned.
It rarely happens, but I have NO words!
Me, either.
So much for "Family comes first." I really do pray for a miraculous recovery for her. We've probably all lost people we love to cancer and can sympathize with her. It's also what makes her husband's decision to stay on the campaign trail seem to selfish.
That would be similar to the background in Aaron Sorkin's movie "American President". Wonder how long before the media mentions it? Remember Michael Douglas asking over the pool table whether he woul have won if his wife had not died.
Forget Hollywood and politics, I'd like a miracle. I've been through the wringer of knowing a loved one was going to die, that there's not a damn thing you can do, and don't want others to go through that.
I hear you.
My cynical mind made me post this very scenario last night and I really hoped I would be proven wrong today.
I'm not getting upset about yet
I don't think they realize how bad things will get
Bone cancer is nasty
If he continues campaigning while she is at home dying ... then he'll get ripped and rightfully so for his actions
Damn. Just unbelievable.
I cannot imagine the coldness of the heart of a husband who would make his wife go through this alone.
I pray he reconsiders. I really do.
I have too.
btw, Honk!
Doesn't she know what she's going to be facing?
Do you really think that people who cite FreeRepublic as vile and hateful, and say nothing about Democratic Underground, have actually visited and read from both sites? Honestly, I had read for years on FreeRepublic how ghastly a place DU was, but it was nothing like seeing it for myself firsthand. They are raving, hate-driven ideologues. The only effect facts have on them is to ratchet their hatefulness up several more notches. It is scary!
Washington DC. Yes, everything turned out fine. The issue was that October is Breast Cancer Month, and there are traveling mammography vans all over the city screening tens of thousands of women, so if they see anything at all, there is a city-wide backlog of followups to be done. Lesson learned: do NOT go at the same time as everyone else.
I have never had any respect for John Edwards, but I really didn't think he'd abandon a dying wife and the mother of his two small children for poltical ambition.
PRayers up for Elizabeth!!!!!!!!!
I knew that rang a bell. Thanks.
