John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. Itll be another couple of days before theres complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."
Glad to see this couple has their priorities straight.

Oh boy. Good is all a matter of degrees.
Prayers for the Edwards family.
not suspending per CNN breaking news email:
-- Former Sen. John Edwards today announced he will continue his Democratic
presidential campaign even though his wife ElizabethÂs cancer has returned.
the nation does not need his service right now given his personal strife
I am frankly stunned at this.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but now I'm fast moving into the "he's using this for his own benefit" column.
He will drop like a rock in the polls.
It's nice to see the support he's giving his wife. Prayers for her complete recovery.
That's what I thought.
I hope his wife is alright, and beats the cancer. I think he had the best shot of the bunch.
>>>I hope she gets great treatment and that it works well for her.
Only thing treatment will do at this point in time is delay the inevitable.
Exactly what I was thinking. Did he say whether the rib on that side showed cancer as well?
Should we apply that to our military men and women as well?
hmmm--I believe I got my left and right backwards in the description of the fracture and mets.
Osteporosis???
At last, the persistence of a tenacious trial lawyer shows through. Why would he let a little health problem ruin his whole day?
.
me too - I can't help but thinking... well I can't say right now
I did not hear them describe Ca found in the fractured rib.
No wonder you don't like the President.
But, since he's not the subject of discussion here, and I don't want to give you any more openings to hijack this thread and turn it into a bash party for you, I won't respond to any further posts by you.
I have the opposite impression. I think his poll numbers will move up noticeably. But then, I'm a cynic.
Anyone know if Breast cancer jumping into the bones goes through the lymph system?
Unfortunately, every case I've had personal awareness of that begins with "the cancer came back" or "the cancer spread" has always ended badly. Seems like once metastasis occurs, it portends a very aggressive disease.
I do respect John Edwards for putting family ahead of personal ambition. I sincerely hope I can revise my personal experience to reflect knowing someone who survived "the cancer came back."
Actually Chena, I think we do.
