John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."
He has a lot of people obligated to him all across the country.
If what we suspect turns out to be true that whizzing sound we hear at 12:15 will be resuming flash faxing around the country.
Very tragic. They have young children at home. Put politics aside, it's time for prayers.

Of course he's terming it a 'suspension'. He's a lawyer to the bone.

Very very sad. Prayers for Elizabeth Edwards and the family in the days and months ahead. May she be healed from this despicable disease and vibrant health.

It's true. Her posting was very well done, but it wasn't anonymous. She was upfront about who she was. IIRC Michelle Malkin wrote about the episode in Unhinged.
Today's rumor is heartbreaking but I will not give up hope for her achieving another remission. As for John, I agree completely that it speaks very well of him if he is suspending his campaign because of Elizabeth's health.
Yeah, and most of the federal tax dollars are being used to find a cure for AIDs. Go figure.
Elizabeth Edwards is an active member of DU and doesn't post anonymously..
One would be surprised how many Dem leaders have accounts there.. it says a lot about their character to associate with those nuts (in her defense, Elizabeth Edwards did smack down the DUmbasses when Laura Ingram was going through her cancer treatment (the DUmbasses were wishing her-Laura- all forms of vile death..))

I agree. My first thought after "Why has this information come out now, in this way ... " was " ... because Edwards arranged it for some perceived political advantage.
It's a sad commentary on him and us, really. Him for being like that, and us for being dragged down by it.

My thoughts as well. It would be impossible to stay focused if that were the case, and I could relate to the decision.
I have a cousin who is facing a similar situation where it spread to her lungs and brain. She is putting up a valiant fight and seems to be winning it.....But it takes everything she has and it is very hard for me to see her and all the battle damage she has sustained.
I'm very sorry to read the Mrs. Edwards is having this health issue arise for her again. I wish them both well.
This must be a terrifying experience for any family. Cancer doesn't pick political parties... I hope she beats this.
