"The concensus was that the boy had been taken by a lion. "

Oh, yeah kind of like man made global warming.

Why would he need to go into the woods to "hide" from a scout leader? He wandered right after lunch time when the entire group - the ones who went on the hike from which Michael stayed behind and who had returned from the hike, plus Michael and the scout leader who had stayed behind as well - had come together for the noon meal. He was surrounded by everyone who was on the campout.

"Maybe he was trying to hide from a scout leader......."

That was my first thought, too, when he disappeared, and they said he stayed behind with an adult and didn't go on the hike that morning. Then today, when I read that he had attention deficit disorder, I thought, well maybe I was being too suspicious....

You're obviously not a mommy.

I am, and my 12-year-old Boy Scout is not a "little child." He's a young man who is as tall as I am ... well, that was yesterday - he's probably taller today.

"They were discussing the search for Rudolph, not the search for this Boy Scout."

Thanks...I should have looked more closely. I realized it a few seconds after I posted, and then corrected myself.

I just think there is more to this story. I have spent a lot of time in the woods and mountains. If this kid was only a 1/2 mile from the camp site, which makes sense because they said it was rugged terrain; how could 70 plus searchers swarming that area calling out for this boy and the boy not respond? Maybe the boy did not want to be found or maybe he was scared. Something is just not right.

Our local Boy Scout camp has a dining hall with a 100' long front porch. Early for a meeting there one time, I noticed a sign that read something like - learn your pace, 100 feet. In a minute or two it hit me. It takes me 44 steps to walk 100 feet. I thought at the time, what a cool thing to teach children.

I was worried that the poor boy had been accosted by the scout leader ( what a crazy world that I would even think that) I am so thankful he is allright. I have a 12 yr. old grandson and can't help but think how scared he would be.

Thank You Lord

I had the same fear. And that raises a very important issue which will no-doubt become more vocalized now that he is safe (Thank and Praise God!). Boy Scouts of America rules prohibit ever allowing an adult leader to be alone with a scout. It is one of the most fundamental rules of scouting. It's called "2-deep Leadership" and it protects the child as well as the adult. It demands that there always be 2 adults minimum present with a child. In reality, it legally protects the BSA more than anything else. But in cases such as this one, it would have made it less likely that the child could have wandered off un-noticed, and it would have largely prevented suspicions such as the ones you and I had. I suspect that law-suits will come out of this that could have been avoided if 2-deep leadership had been complied with.

Little boys with too much energy typically make great gymnasts. No kidding. (My father-in-law still holds the NCAA record in mens gymnastics.)

Get real, everything is done by God! Don't get me going on you people who do not know that. Only answer is some day you WILL!

God did not put my socks on for me this morning. He did give me the ability to earn the money to buy them and a brain and body that know how to do it.
