I'd be reluctant to call a twelve-year-old a "little child".

You're obviously not a mommy.

Yeah...wait till mom and dad see the bill from the NC gov't for his nature walk

That would be the most worthwhile bill I could ever pay! I would not care if it cost a million dollars - my son is alive! Who cares about money at that point. It would take a few generations to pay, but so worth it!

Now Fox News is saying the kid was found less than 1/2 mile from the camp. Something is not right. Maybe he was trying to hide from a scout leader.......

Read the post #80 was replying to. They were discussing the search for Rudolph, not the search for this Boy Scout.

I am so thankful this young man was found safe and sound.

He is 12. I read his rank the other day but don't remember. It wasn't pueblo or "rookie." He had been in the Boy Scouts for a year.

The lowest rank in BSA is Tenderfoot. Of course he may not have advanced to a rank yet, and since he was in Webelos for two years before entering the Boy Scouts, they may have been still referring to him as a Webelo.

Another highlight to this story is that the scout was hyper active and taking Ritalin. Let's hope the parents rethink this medication choice. He seems not to have needed the drug for four days, maybe he doesn't need it at all.

OK. I let one go by but not two. If the boy had not been found alive, that does not change the presence or goodness of God.

Good point. In addition, when a child suffers a fatal accident should we conclude God wasn't there when He was really needed?

Thank God he's OK.

also, it restore some of my faith in today's kids. He learned some skills and was able to apply them to survive. I have a 12 yr old First Class Scout and hope he can do he same if necessary. You can bet I will be asking him what he knows and to show me. One great way to spend time with him!

No, he's reached 1st class.

Kid's a serious scout to reach that in a year.

According to media reports, he rarely took it. Only in situations where he had to take tests and required a lot of concentration.

I don't think kids should be on mind altering drugs at all, just wanted to clarify that point.

Dismiss my last comment to you. They were discussing another person, not this boy. I thought the comments were about this thread.

There was a young child in a remote area of western VA who went missing several years ago. There was an immediate roadblock of all roads in the area, and there were so few roads that authorities felt no one could have escaped with the child. The concensus was that the boy had been taken by a lion.

I don't know if mountain lions are in North Carolina, but they travel tremendous distances, and if they are demonstrably in the mountains of Maryland and Virginia, quite close to people, they might possibly have made it to North Carolina by this time.

No you have not. A Cub that crosses over from Webelos can do so at that age. Good luck on his journey. From a current Asst. Scoutmaster and Cub Den Leader.

Thanks for mentioning his Scoutmaster. These boys get a lot of guidance from them. Assistant Scoutmasters as well. These people devote a lot of time to Scouting. I am "just a committee member", and I see how much more time these leaders devote to the boys. It is a shame more people can not do the same...

I thought I read he was a "first class" but not sure where that ranks in the levels of boy scouting.

When you are lost in the wilderness and disoriented, 100 yards is a lot. I have spent years in the northern woods and have come to the conclusion that I am a very poor woodsman. To a 12 year-old......... Plus, know one knows at the moment if he was on the move - which seems likely.

He wouldn't have gotten caught but for some reason on that day, the Romulans wouldn't beam him up.
