A Word From The Wise

READ: James 3:1-12

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles. —Proverbs 21:23

James, a “pillar in the early church” (Gal. 2:9), recognized the great destructive power and the danger of an uncontrolled tongue. He was not alone. Men and women in many cultures have warned us about the need to guard our speech. This bit of verse by an unknown writer says it well:

“The boneless tongue, so small and weak, can crush and kill,” declared the Greek.

The Persian proverb wisely saith, “A lengthy tongue, an early death.” Sometimes it takes this form instead: “Don’t let your tongue cut off your head.”

While Arab sages this impart: “The tongue’s great storehouse is the heart.”

From Hebrew wit, the maxim’s sprung: “Though feet should slip, don’t let the tongue.”

A verse from Scripture crowns the whole: “Who keeps the tongue doth keep his soul.”

Is it any wonder that James likened the tongue to a little fire that sets a great forest ablaze, or to the very small rudder that turns a mighty ship in a storm? (James 3:4-6).

O Lord, help us to learn a lesson from the wise. Help us to hold our tongue and not let it slip.

There are some silent people
Whose praises should be sung;
They preach a mighty sermon
By guarding well their tongue.  —Posegate

Wise is the person who knows what to say and when to say it.

Oh Lord, I am more than ready for Spring. It's not here yet. I don't go by the calendar. I go by the AR gauge, and the AR gauge says no right now, but it's not far away.

Come on Spring!

Counting the hours till spring officially begins.

Have Passover cleaning to do first. That is the official rite of spring.

We spent this afternoon working in the garden, planting a new tree and some shrubs. I have to go back to the garden center tomorrow to get one more lilac. I miscalculated the space.
I can';t wait til they bloom and I can enjoy the fragrance of lilacs and gardenias in my own garden. I spend lots of time in the Spring Summer and Fall sitting on my front porch in the swing drinking iced tea and watching the world go by.

HI TROOPS!!!!

Hmmm...favorite summertime sunshine activity? Alright...how about leisurely strolls in shaded gardens?

Or, meeting new friends?

I enjoy going on bike rides in the summer.

)

I also like to watch the sunset with a few friends!

After being put on standby all of last week, they called me last evening and told me they needed me at work. Naturally, I was thrilled, because paychecks are always handy.

BTW: I've come up with a solution for the WOT, but I think only Cheney or Rummy would do it. I don't think Dubya has the stomach for it: park 3-4 Ohio class subs off Iran's coast, another one or two off Syria's. Send out the word that if so much as one soldier or Marine is injured by these new chlorine bombs, the boomers are going to party. And it won't be pretty...

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning

Thank you, Ms. Feather, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities. First, today's weather report and then I'll tell you what I love to do in the sun.

DC Metroland weather report ~ Today.....A few clouds this morning, but generally sunny for the afternoon. High 57F. Winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph. ~ Tonight....Generally clear. Low around 30F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph.

Now, incase everyone has forgotten what I love to do best in the sun, here we go....

Time for me to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial. Don't change that channel. Put down that remote. Don't leave the room. Keep your eyes on your monitor. Cause...............I'll be bock!

Now remember, the Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and

our allied military and the family members of the above.

Guessed yet?
