Amid bipartisan calls for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation in a scandal over dismissals of eight federal prosecutors, the White House said Monday, “We hope he stays.” When asked if Gonzales will serve for the rest of President Bush's term, White House press secretary Tony Snow said, “Well, we hope so.”

Strong words. The iron will of W is on display yet again. What is it about domestic politics that turns him into talc?

I find Hillary!08 to be unimaginative and manipulative by supporting Gonzales' resignation and urging her supporters to get on the bandwagon.

What kind of a half assed show of support is that? WE hope so??? Good grief...

One good thing for Mr Gonzales...if he resigns he can move to Mexico City. Then his paychecks won't take so long to get to him anymore.

As I've said before, I think he's been a lousy attorney general, and I'll be glad to see the last of him. But it would be too bad if Bush were seen to fire him because the Democrats were on his case.

At least this hopefully disqualifies him as a candidate for SCOTUS.

Well I guess we can take solace in the fact that this was not as ringing an endorsement as Steinbrenner used to give to Billy Martin (just before Steinbrenner canned him).

Why doesn't President Bush simply state "executive branch", "been done before", "thousand points of light", then move on?

The same thing that made him a two-time loser in business even with his incredible family connections. The guy is all hat and no cattle. Always has been. Many of us screamed as much in 2000, but what could one do? Vote for McCain? We haven't had a decent choice for President since Reagan.

'Berto needs to review the support his predecessor got from GW.

Ashcroft got skewered by his boss for bringing up a Gorelick memo to protect his boss during the 911 Commission hearings.

[Berto, be sure you have a packing box or few handy this week.]

Schumer predicted on the Sunday Morning Newstalk that Gonzales would be gone by the end of the week. With that overwhelming endorsement from the WH, “We hope he stays", Berto is probably packing his personals already.

I have mixed feelings on this.

I would be HAPPY to see Gonzales kicked into the dustbin of history - a total mediocrity whose sole qualification for office was his support of Bush's illegal alien toleration policies. BETTER YET, I'd like to see Gonzales sharing a cell with those three border guards he persecuted.

On the other hand, unless something we don't know about is going on behind the scenes here, why doens't Bush tell the Dems to go screw themselves, that Federal Attorneys serve at HIS pleasure and nobody else's, and invoke Presidential privilege to DIRECT Rove and Miers to ignore the
Robespierre wing of Congress?

I am getting so SICK of this Administration and its tail-between-the-leg dealings with the democrats.

They should have said 'Gonzalez is staying. End of story. Next question'.

This type of spineless display by Bush and Co. is appalling.

Supposedly one or more were let go for refusing to investigate voter fraud in their districts.

I agree. They don't stand up to the msm and the rats. This is one trait I believe that Rudy, Duncan Hunter and possibly Fred Thompson have.

I'm not sure about Romney. I know that McQueeg and Hagel would bow down to the press. We need someone that will stand up to these guys.
