A day after he implied that Ireland should not follow New York Citys example and pass a ban on smoking in all workplaces, Rudolph Giuliani called Mayor Michael Bloomberg to say that was not what he meant.
Bloomberg said the former mayor told him that he meant that Ireland, which currently has no smoking restrictions, should begin to restrict smoking slowly, rather than all at once.
He just thought that sometimes you go partways to get there, let people adjust and then go the rest of the way, Bloomberg said yesterday.
Giuliani said that it made more sense to restrict smoking to certain areas.

Certainly businesses licensed by public authority must conform to the requirements of the license. And that's another problem that needs to be addressed; most likely with bloodshed.

Should smoking be allowed on public transit or buses? If it were up to me, there would be no such thing and private companies would run them and set their own smoking policies. Privately owned businesses such as restaurants are different, though. At my friend's restaurant we've had a significant of our customers complaining about the ban and only a handful praise it. How does this benefit the greater good?

Should I be able to go and ruin a fellow diner's meal by firing up my cigar? For people like me, that would enhance the experience.

I really do not care if you enjoy sitting in a smokey bar. Be my guest.I made no comment about whether or not I enjoyed sitting in a smokey bar and I didn't ask for further opinions. I asked a direct question which normally gets a direct answer.
Once again I ask...If you sit in a closed garage with a car engine on and I sit in a bar full of cigarette smoke who comes out alive?

There is no big money interest pushing anti-smoking ordinances.Just a "for instance"...
Backers of ballot initiatives reel in funding
Campaign-finance reports filed late last week show that a drive to enact a statewide smoking ban at all indoor workplaces has raised more than a half-million dollars, with the bulk of the money coming from the American Cancer Society.

...anti-smoking...BTW, try changing your keywords to "tobacco control" and see what you come up with.
You get articles like this...
Study: Tobacco Control Policies Lower Smoking Rates ASSIST provided $128 million to fund smoking reduction initiatives in 17 states over an eight-year period. And this...
Funding Helps Local Advocacy Groups Reduce Tobacco ThreatAs part of its commitment to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation today announced $1.9 million in new grants to tobacco control initiatives at 21 sites nationwide. Those are just a couple of examples and I don't see how you can claim...

I quit smoking about 15 years ago. I used nicotine gum and it took NO patience and NO guts. Just the desire to do it.... When I resumed smoking it was because I wanted to LOL! LOL! You are correct. It takes no patience and no guts to quit --- I've done it a hundred times. It takes patience and guts to STAY QUIT, something you haven't been able to do. Oh, wait, you want to smoke. So do I, but I don't.

And once again, I will answer that I am not about to sit in a closed garage with the car running, but I imagine you have plenty of experience in bars. Yours is a ridiculous question; do not expect a direct answer from me.

And once again, I will answer...How can you do again what you didn't do the first time?
Yours is a ridiculous question...
No, it isn't.
...do not expect a direct answer from me.
That's okay, your roundabout answer suffices...
...I am not about to sit in a closed garage with the car running...
Is that because you would die if you did so while I could walk out of the smoke filled bar? Get the point?
...but I imagine you have plenty of experience in bars.
Sadly, reality doesn't conform to your imaginations. I have some experience, though not plenty by far. If your previous statements are any indication you seem far more experienced with bars than I.

It takes patience and guts to STAY QUIT, something you haven't been able to do. Didn't want to do. Didn't need the government to help me quit by forcing my neurosis on everyone else either.

It takes no patience and no guts to quit --- I've done it a hundred times.Interesting. I've only quit once. Only tried to quit once. Eleven months without tobacco was not a problem. Doing it for someone else was. Quitting and failing "hundreds of times" just sounds...neurotic as hell.

Eleven months without tobacco is kid stuff.
To: TigersEye
Didn't want to....... You can quit at any time, whenever you want to, right? That sounds like an addict's talk.

It was glorious freedom!!! What about the property owners freedom?
Screw him, eh? You got what you wanted.

Believe it or not, I had visions of the tank many years before I actually quit. I didn't start thinking about being tanked until I had a hack that wouldn't go away.
