Nagin Has A Chocolate Chip On His Shoulder
The Stiletto ^ | March 19, 2007 | The Stiletto

New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin believes that that the slow recovery and rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina is part of a plan to disperse black voters geographically to make it more difficult for blacks to be elected to political office.

"Ladies and gentlemen, what happened in New Orleans could happen anywhere. They are studying this model of natural disasters, dispersing the community and changing the electoral process in that community," Nagin said in a speech to the National Newspaper Publishers Association, a trade group for newspapers serving the black community.

The Washington Post reports that Nagin, who won reelection last May over Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, "suggested that his assertion that New Orleans would once again be a majority-black [‘chocolate’] city had made him a political target" and that his reelection chances "seemed slim because ‘they dispersed all of our people across 44 states with one-way tickets.’"

What an ingrate! Cities around the country – notably throughout Texas – opened their hearts and coffers to Katrina evacuees (sometimes picking up the tab for rent and utilities) only to be rewarded by stratospheric spikes in crime as former denizens of New Orleans sought to recreate their violent, drug-fueled lifestyles in their new digs.

In Texas, relocation of Katrina evacuees had "a major impact on crime and the cost of policing in Texas," according to a study by Sam Houston State University's Police Research Center. For instance, six months after 175,000 Katrina evacuees relocated to Houston, that city reported 160 additional drug offenses, 48 property offenses, 121 petty offenses and 116 violent offenses – which increased law enforcement expenditures $4.7 million.

By now, cities with large numbers of Katrina evacuees would be more than happy to send them back to Mayor Nagin. But guess what? Despite his paranoid, race-baiting comments to the black newspaper editors and publishers gathered at the Capital Hilton, Nagin and other New Orleans officials have repeatedly made it clear they don’t want many of them back at all.

Nagin could sweeten the welfare pot and get all his former citizens to return.

Where do you suppose they dispersed the ghost voters? Nagin is whimpering for what a legal election might do to him. Seeya, don't want to beeya.

The article says many cities gave the evacuees free rent and utilities - and many of them they couldn't use the financial breather to straighten up and fly right - you know, go to school (GED or trade), make new friends who were not criminals or layabouts, etc.

Yea, when they exhaust all the goodies from those other cities, they will go looking for a better deal.

Nagin is unhappy that the feds (taxpayers) won't rebuild his city for him. He's waiting for a bailout that is not going to come. We can't afford it.

Other cities that have had hurricanes or otehr disasters have bucked up and rebuilt. So can New Orleans.

Oh, don't I remember being blasted here for saying I didn't want them coming to Texas. There's a few dozen who have formed some sort of church here to get out of paying taxes. These "nice chuch folk" have done nothing but disrupt the community. Their kids are nothing but NO ghetto trash who cause trouble at school. We have a wonderful peaceful school but those kids are hellions.

"They are studying this model of natural disasters"

Why yess Mayor Nagin, they are. They are studying the long term effects of a socialist, gimme, welfare culture that turns people into park pigeons; standing around making noise, crapping up the place and waiting to be fed.

Nobody wants any more welfare pigeons in their city.

I think they've just about worn out their welcome everywhere. Next time there's a hurricane in N.O., those folks will be on their own beyond whatever FEMA can do on the spot - and Nagin better have a plan other than complain and whine and blame other people.

"Ladies and gentlemen, what happened in New Orleans could happen anywhere. They are studying this model of natural disasters, ..

First of all, for the "could happen anywhere", I guess that's true if by "anywhere", you mean anywhere with a parasitic population below sea level in hurricane country.

Sort of like the old AIDS scam that "everyone" is at risk of catching it.

Secondly, compare the behavior of those encamped in the Superdome (who knew beforehand they would be there for a few days) with those who ended up encamped in the Denver airport for a similar period of time last Christmas with NO warning they would be there for more than an hour or two.

what happened in New Orleans could happen anywhere.

We have more coastal cities built below sea level in hurricane prone areas?

All excellent points! BTW, for years I have been telling people that safe sex is like a trigger lock on a gun - redundant and unnecessarty if you do not engage in risky behavior, whether it's having sex with strangers or leaving a loaded gun unlocked. Every one thought I was nuts ... on both counts.

Yeah? Then how did that moron "Schoolbus" Nagin get reelected?
