As war protesters marched toward Arlington Memorial Bridge en route to the Pentagon yesterday, they were flanked by long lines of military veterans and others who stood in solidarity with U.S. troops and the Bush administration's cause in Iraq. Many booed loudly as the protesters passed, turned their backs to them or yelled, "If you don't like America, get out!"
Several thousand vets, some of whom came by bus from New Jersey, car caravans from California or flights from Seattle or Michigan, lined the route from the bridge and down 23rd Street, waving signs such as "War There Or War Here." Their lines snaked around the corner and down several blocks of Constitution Avenue in what organizers called the largest gathering of pro-administration counter-demonstrators since the war began four years ago.
Bullhorns blared and drums beat as antiwar protesters marched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Pentagon. According to early reports, it was generally a peaceful demonstration. Police did move in occasionally to make sure that the yelling marchers and counter protesters did not escalate.
The vets turned both sides of Constitution into a bitter, charged gantlet for the war protesters. "Jihadists!" some vets screamed. "You're brain-dead!" Others chanted, "Workers World traitors must hang!" -- a reference to the Communist newspaper. Some broke into "The Star-Spangled Banner" as war protesters sought to hand out pamphlets.
"Bunch of hooligans in motorcycle jackets!" one war protester shot back.
The large turnout surprised even some counter-demonstrators. Polls show public opinion turning against the war in Iraq, and the November election was widely seen as a repudiation of the administration's policy.

Here's a great post from the comments section of this article: "Most of the counter-demonstrators were veterans, so your talk of why dont you enlist or go to Iraq is nonsense. These men and women have already served our country and are trying to protect those who serve now. Many Vietnam vets were spat upon or worse by some of the same human garbage that were marching to the Pentagon in this latest anti-American exercise, so they know that the far left hates America and wants this to become a Marxist state! Today marks the day that the average US citizen gets fed-up with the Cindy Sheehans, the Jane Fondas and the rest of those traitors!!"

"the Bush administration's cause in Iraq"Bush Administration? Ah, it's America's cause in Iraq. It was voted on by both Houses of Congress. It was supported by huge majorities. So this is how the unbiased WaPo sees the war on terror. It's Bush's fault! How is this different from the Barking Moonbat leftists?

And you have been doing everything you can to try to make those polls reflect your bias against the war. You have been cheering the moonbats, and deningrating our troops all to get the public to turn against Bush and Republicans. Washington Post is no different than World Workers socialist rag.

I can only surmise that the wildly skewed definition of "peace" as seen by the anti-war folks, has more to do with a way of life devoted to drugs, drink, sex, rock and roll, and much later in life, remorse at their wasted youth.
Those who understand what Peace really means, and the daily cost, in sacrifice, of money, time, effort, youth, and blood, will always stand as an unappreciated memorial to those who don't or won't believe that you can't negotiate Peace.

Polls show public opinion turning against the war in Iraq...I'd just like to point out how this sentence is a masterpiece of tendentious journalism: Analysis time:
Polls show For this to be true, all we need is two polls. We've got our plural then. If 100 polls show that opinion FOR the war is picking up, but two show it's going the other way, the sentence is true as written. -- virtually meaningless, but true>
public opinion turning against the war So I poll 10 people in November. 9 are for the war, 1 is against it. I poll the same group in February. Now 1 is against the war, and 1 is undecided, while 8 support it. My headline is Polls show opinion turning against, and the next line is doubts about war increase 100%!
I KNOW that the numbers in this case may be more significant. My point is only that journalists are so used to lying that even when they tell the truth (It MUST happen sometimes ...) they do so in obfuscatory ways.

Here is a little info on the moonbats at the Wall. We had two long lines waiting to view the Wall. The line I was on was next to the Vietnam Veterans Statue. When people cut through our line to get to view it you could tell whose side they were on. Our side said excuse me and smiled, their side said nothing and frowned.

Washington's cherry blossoms were anxiously awaiting warmer weather as anti-war protesters gather nearby to mark the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. Never mind the thousands of Americans supporting the War on Terror, the Real Story™ is about how anti-war protesters gather nearby to mark the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. |
