Six imams who are suing an airline and an airport for removing them from a flight also have aimed the lawsuit at passengers who the imams believe reported some of their activities.
The suit filed this week in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis names as defendants "John Does" who "contacted US Airways to report the alleged suspicious behavior" of the imams before the Nov. 20 flight -- an inclusion some lawyers, who are not connected to the litigation, say will have a "chilling effect" on airline security.
"If such a suit could proceed, it would have a chilling effect on the willingness of people to provide information that authorities need to act when people are engaged in wrongdoing," said Mark Behrens, a liability defense lawyer with the Washington firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon.
"If reporting suspicious behavior becomes actionable, that could have a dangerous precedent for reporting other crimes, like child abuse and abductions," Mr. Behrens said. "It's certainly a form of intimidation to go after passengers."
The lawsuit primarily targets US Airways and the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Airports Commission, but suing passengers who report suspicious behavior "sends a terrible message if we are at all concerned about the threat of terrorism," said Walter Olson, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and author of several books on litigation in the U.S.
"The implications are that if you appear to just buzz about what you perceive to be a security threat then you are a legal wrongdoer and responsible for damages, even if all you did was notify the authorities. And that would have a tremendous chilling effect, win or lose.

If I were a passenger on that ill fated flight I would sue these guys....
that's exactly what they want..make people scared to say anything for fear of being sued..thus making the "final" roadblock, that is, passengers taking matters into their own hands, much more difficult..
death by a thousand cuts..
I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on television, but it seems to me that some interesting things could be dug up during the discovery phase if the defense lawyer looked to see if the Imams actually had ties to terrorism.
"Flyin' Imams" ping......
This list is just beginning.
If you'd like to get on board, FReepmail me.
" Mark Behrens, a liability defense lawyer with the Washington firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon."
Perfect name for a bunch of lawyers!
PING!
This is the exact message these Holy Men are sending to the American people. These Imams are terrorist of a different kind; Tort Terrorist.
They have learned from reading our news papers that Lawyers can be used as weapons.
In the airport and on the plane they acted in very provocative ways to garner attention and instill fear in people that were preconditioned by the events of September 11, 2001 to be suspicious of Muslims.
So now they are busy plowing the ground for the traditional Islamic Terrorist, making it easier for them to do their work by making people afraid to report the activities of deadly form of the beast.
This form of terrorism will also work its magic on the airline and other industries. Even should the lawsuits fail the industries will be gun shy of taking action against Muslims unless they have already made their terrorist nature clear beyond any doubt. They may have to actually yell I have a bomb before flight attendants take action.
These Imams have already done great damage.
Folks -- we can't be far from dealing with these assholes in a manner in which they are fully accustomed to and practice themselves....
Someone once said ",,,,the Arabs always are either under your heel or at your throat."
It appears he knew what he was talking about.
Semper Fi
They need to be told to leave for their jihadistans, before the door closes on them.
Then the boot must always be on their throat. The alternative is not acceptable..
Gonna be a whole lotta "'spicious Moslems" flyin, I'd wager.
Every damn one of them!
If I was concerned I would risk getting sued.
It appears he knew what he was talking about.
Amen! I would love to know who to credit that quote to. I would use it for a tag line for the duration.
I will NEVER fly any airline again in my life.
It just isn't worth it. Don't report suspicious activity, die. Report suspicious activity, get sued. Put up with disgusting searches (I'm an elderly granny) because profiling is not PC.
What a steaming pile. Americans can grow some stones and stand up to these whiny, bullying ME brats, or just knuckle under and give the freaking country up. I swear, it's already being nibbled to death by freaking ME lawsuit after freaking ME lawsuit.
Congress has no stones. Judges have no stones.
Any terror incident that takes place in the US, like Breslan, for instance, with some of these suspicious "foreign nationals" driving our schoolbuses, etc.--I have a feeling that won't take place until they feel we're softened up enough...they sure do count on Americans obeying the law. So they're taking over "the law."
It was Winston Churchill.
Follow this and its aftereffects carefully. It will be a perfect illustration of how PC KILLS.
this says a British general said it http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:vg0ExoIZMhQJ:www.eclipsoid.com/bridges/essay.html+the+Arabs+always+are+either+under+your+heel+or+at+your+throat.%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us
[... Arabs always are either under your heel or at your throat...]
You can credit God for that idiom.
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and
her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15)
This begs the question: Why not freep the law firm that's representing these imams in their suit, and publicize their connections? Get them on the defensive!
