For discussion.
Its hard for me to believe that a superb guy like George Allen was thrown under the bus for macaca and we find ourselves here, Argueing the merits of Guliani
I can emphatically state I won't vote for McCain for anything.
Just not sure about Rudy yet, and leaning towards a write-in.
But it's way too early yet. I just keep reading FReepers pros and cons on each candidate, ignoring the '-bot' syndrome of many. I get more information from the heated discussions here than anywhere else.
Given the choice as presented, I'll hold my nose and vote for Rudy.
I vote for neither.
Rudy but I had close my eyes and hold my nose.
I voted McCain.
Only Rudy could make me do that.
Of course, Rudy's so bad I would never even support him in the General Election against Hillary.
She wrote in from parts unknown.
People got vocal and made the president reconsider Harriet Miers. I think Rudy would listen if we made our voices known to that degree again. He needs to dance with the one that brung him.
McCain, on the other hand... well, just look at his actions with the Gang of Fourteen. He believes he knows what's best for us and doesn't listen worth a damn. He will do whatever he pleases without regard to our opinions or conservative values. I can't say I trust Rudy even 70% but I don't trust McCain at all. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Bupkis.
I absolutely cannot stand the thought of Hillary or Obama in the White House, so there's no way I can afford to sit this one out. Better to get some of what I want rather than a lot of what they want.

The pubs are fools and continue to go leftist as the candidates they run show.
Maybe I]ll write in Tom(the Hammer)Delay. Then I would b e voting for a conservative.
Im hoping that Thompson will save us L0L
[there is no way that I can accept the Mark of the RINO Beast]
Well said, my fellow conservative. Let the comrades vote for the comrades.
I'm with you Halgr.
I'm all for winning, but not when it means sacrificing everything I hold dear.
Winning at all costs sometimes costs more than it's worth.
Precisely. If Hillary wins, we lose four or even eight years. If Rudy wins, we lose permanently.
Let's take the pro-life cause, the main reason I began voting for Republicans over Democrats. If President Hillary pushes "abortion rights," as surely she will, it's still a repulsive leftist baby-butchering business. On the other hand, if President Rudy pushes it, as surely he will, it's now a private matter which conservatives trust individuals to decide for themselves--with government funding, of course. Given that choice, I'll take Hillary.
A better breakdown of the population is from a recent cultural survey (on values). This is 22 page report is based on a comprehensive survey of American religious and other values.
The Report begins by classifying values groups into: (1)Orthodox; (2)Progressive; (3) And, Independent.
Orthodox represents about a third of the population. These individuals have a basic, religious outlook on life and they overwhelmingly believe in God. They wish to see government policies mirror religious values. They are strong believers in right and wrong and see most social issues in black and white terms.
Progressives represent one sixth of the populationand are uniformly opposed to religious values in government. While 53% believe in God 33% do not. Progressives believe in situational ethics and they see moral issues in shades of gray.
Independents represent about one half of the population. They do not fully accept orthodox or progressive views but they tend to side with the orthodox on questions of politics and sexual morality. They are more situational in the way they view moral issues even though 93% of them believe in God. Their opinions frequently lean towards Progressive in matters of honesty and character.
The battle is over the independents. With Giuliani leading in the FR poll, one can easily guess that those voting want to appeal to the "independents." No one can win without out them and while the "orthodox" out number the "progressives" this is an insufficient approach.
Intuitively, those voting for Giuliani are making the best choice in a bad situation. While those claiming we should ruthlessly limit this choice to a 100% true conservative believer, it is clear that such a person will not win.
Regardless of he hype, President Reagan voted and acted from the center with a conservative attitude. He changed none of the social issues, increased taxes on Social Security and Medicare but reduced and then increased taxes on the upper income bracket. In a word, he was a wonderful pragmatic conservative.
