Poll: Giuliani Has Biggest Base of Support, Lowest Base of Opposition
Rasmussen ^ | 3/15/07

Posted on 03/15/2007 9:18:09 AM PDT by areafiftyone

If you’re a fan of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) you probably can’t believe all the good news surrounding the Presidential hopeful. He leads the Republican Primary polls, has the highest favorability rating of all candidates, and leads every Democrat in general election match-ups.

Rasmussen Reports recently conducted a national telephone survey that yielded another good dose of polling data for “America’s Mayor.” When we asked Likely Voters if they would “definitely” vote for or against leading Presidential candidates, more voters said they would definitely vote for Giuliani than against. The opposite was true for every other candidate in the survey including Senator Hillary Clinton (D), Senator John McCain (R), Senator Barack Obama (D), and former Senator John Edwards (D).

Advertisment

Thirty-one percent (31%) said they’d definitely vote for Giuliani while 28% said they’d definitely vote against. Both those numbers were the best earned by any candidate. A plurality, 35%, said it would depend upon who Giuliani is running against.

Clinton was very close to Giuliani on the positive side of the equation—30% say they’d definitely vote for the former First Lady. However, 46% say they’d definitely vote against her. Clinton leads in polling for the Democratic nomination but trails Giuliani in general election polling.

Obama’s numbers are a little lower than Clinton’s on both extremes—28% say they’d definitely vote for him, 37% say they’d definitely vote against.

The data provides especially discouraging news for McCain and Edwards. Only 21% would definitely vote for McCain while 34% would definitely vote against him. For Edwards, the numbers are 20% for and 39% against. However, the real bad news for both men comes from the results within their own party. For McCain, just 35% of Republicans would vote for him while 20% would vote against. Edwards’ numbers among Democrats are similar—33% definitely for Edwards, 20% definitely against.

By way of contrast, 52% of Republicans would definitely vote for Giuliani. Only 8% would definitely vote against him.

With all the good news pouring in for Giuliani these days, it’s wise to remember how early in the process we are--Howard Dean was the frontrunner for much of the run-up to Election 2004.

LOL! I wouldn't know now would I? I don't work for Rudy. Why don't you tell me since this seems to be some sort of exciting salacious news story for you.

Yes, but this also shows maybe that the Rudy people wouldn't vote republican if it wasn't him, while the conservatives who don't really like him would still vote for him in allegiance with the party, or because even though liberal he's not as liberal as the democrat will be.

Oh, you are just SOOO naive. Don't you know that our Masters of the Great White Lodge control all? You probably aren't even aware of the implants in your head which control all your thoughts and movements. sigh, just ask the Enlightened they will tell you all about it.

The poll showing that 69.3% of FReepers would vote for Rudy makes a hell of a lot more sense than that joke. It was never meant to be anything but a joke.

"Proud to be one of the 8% left with conservative principles. If he wins the nomination I would be forced to make a different choice. But for now........."

That is a solid statement.

Everyone should support who they want as we head toward the primaries. For too many of us though "supporting who we want" means "throw nasty allegations at the R opponent". Hunterites claiming that Rudys wearing a dress as a gag at a benefit means he's gay. Rudyites claiming that Hunter was in league with Duke Cunningham and is corrupt.

This is all BS. I'm sure DU loves what they see on these threads.

My guess is that O'Brien was blind-sided with the Citgo/Hugo Chavez connection and/or the Bernie Kerik indictments. In any event, the news was not very pleasant in Rudyland yesterday, was it?

I know you thought that. If I were to make a guess I would think that guy might be involved in the campaign strategy leaking and left before Rudy gets his hands around his neck.

"I wasn't talking to you."

Well you just did so I'll post it to you again.

"A poll is a poll?

If a poll has no accuracy because people go out looking for it (example "Freep this poll") or because it is on a website with a particular political bent how can it have any legitimacy?

If democratic underground runs a poll that says Hillary/Obama will win the general election with 98% of the vote is that legit?

If FR runs a poll that says Tancredo is going to be the next President of the United States is that legit?

Come on lady...give it a rest."

Interesting theory but it is too complex to be true. Very few poll takers would follow your line of thought. Occam's Razor produces a much different conclusion than your Machiavellian thesis. The simplest and most correct answer is that only a few of the extremist Right do not like him but the vast majority of Republicans DO.

If Giuliani takes the White House, we will be losing to a Democrat.

"Poll: Giuliani Has Biggest Base of Support, Lowest Base of Opposition"

Giuliani's riding high on his 9-11 fame right now. But wait until the average conservative is made aware of Giuliani's pro abortion stance, and his pro-homosexual stance, and his pro-illegal alien stance, and his pro-Affirmative Action stance, and his anti-gun stance. In other words, wait until they find out he's a stark raving liberal.

I am so sorry but when I see on of these Rudy gatherings I feel compelled to post one of my parody songs. I will submit my Beatles selection.

"Come Together"(cue intro in mind)

Here come the mayor, he will, walk on my water
He got, liberal genomes, he's a RINO savior.
He got his something round the GOP.
One thing you can count on is his mo-ral-ity?

He dress like Marilyn, he got, moles and falsies
He's so, homo-friendly, likes to, stop them babies
He say "I know ways, to make you free"
First you take your pistols and just give them to me.

Come together, right now, vote Rudy.

He's mucho macho, He own, all of the City .
He has, love of millions, his heart's, psueso plastic.
He's the neo-neo right, of Bill's Hillary.
Just stare into the Kool aid until you can believe.

Come together right now, vote Rudy

He racehorse winner, he can, beat the lady.
He's not, spawned of Satan, he is, all pro Israel
He stood in rubble, saw him on the TV.
To hell with values son it's Gu-li-ani

Come together right now, vote Rudy

Yeah, we keep hearing that once Republicans learn about Rudy's liberal positions they would disown him. But I think it works the other way.

Most Republicans assumed that Giuliani had many liberal positions from the get go, just based on him being from New York - you know, the Sodom on Hudson. But now Republican voters are learning that Rudy cut taxes, balanced the budget, etc., and that makes for a pleasant surprise.
