TAMPA -- He's campaigning hard for support from Republican social conservatives, but presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Saturday he disagreed with the government's intervention in the Terri Schiavo case.
"I think it's probably best to leave these kinds of matters in the hands of the courts," Romney said in a television interview airing today.

The dude is right. This was no place for the government to get involved.
Yeah I hope one day your kid marries a psychotic male nurse with a death fetish who then starves her to death against your wishes.
The dude is wrong. This WAS the place for government to get involved. Each citizen is precious in God's eyes, regardless of their physical condition, and our government's main job is PROTECTING EACH CITIZEN. I am still extremely sad and angry over Terri Schiavo's murder. >:-(
Thanks, Mitt - you're real presidential material. You utter an opinion about something you know nothing about other than what you saw on CNN/Larry King - that's all you need to know, right? Such laziness resulted in a woman's death - Euthanasia, Mitt - is that okay with you????
Now if he had said the Federal government and courts had no place in this dispute, he might be a conservative.
The government did not "interfere". The congress granted her access to federal court. That's still the judicial system, not the legislative.
While the members of Congress who intervened on Terri Shaivo's case were well-intentioned, they did it in the wrong way. They appeared to be the very busybodies that they have long accused liberals of being.
Mitt just lost me.
Trying to destroy any and all Republicans must be your favorite past time.
He merely shows that he has more than two working brain cells, which is good for a politician, but showing it may be bad for that politician's career. The basic rules governing the case are: "Do not pick a hot potato. Leave bad enough alone. Continuously offer gratitude [Te Deum or otherwise] for all the piles of crap you have not stepped in." It is good that he understands these, but voicing his understanding might be bad for him.
He is right.... I thought we all believed in small government...
A) It was "the government" that was dehydrating this innocent woman to death, by judicial edict.
B) The chief executive of the state of Florida was the primary individual responsible for enforcing Article One, Section Two of the Florida constitution, since an out-of-control local judge was ignoring it.
The government did get involved. Who do you think sent to stormtroopers to the hospice to keep the girl's parents from giving her a drink of water?
You have proof that he is psychotic, has a death fetish? We need t o get past these personal attacks of people we disagree with and start coming at our opponennts with FACTS!
Please don;t tell me that Frist examined her. His "examanation" was bogus.
Congress had no business with the Terri Schiavo affair...
I'm sorry. A judge isn't part of "the government"? And you think a county probate court is authorized to issue a death sentence on a citizen who has never been convicted of a crime? On the basis of --- what?
If I didn't rule him out before, I have now
Ping.
Reporter is either stupid or malevolent. As for Mitt, welcome to my "No way, Jose" list.
Yet another half baked politician who lacks a serious understanding of inalienable rights as defined by our founding documents.
I learned this in 7th grade Civics over 40 years ago.
