FORMER PRESIDENT OF ST. LOUIS CHAPTER OF SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

ST. LOUIS, Missouri - Sandra Batte pled guilty this morning to possession of child pornography, U. S. Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway of the Eastern District of Missouri, and Roland Corvington, Special Agent in Charge, FBI St. Louis, announced today at a press conference in St. Louis. Ms. Batte was President of the St. Louis Chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure until her resignation last week. Hanaway went on to point out that Susan G. Komen for the Cure had no knowledge of the situation and the activities, and were in no way associated with Ms. Batte’s volunteer role for the organization.

During May, 2005, FBI Special Agents in Atlanta, Georgia arrested a male individual on federal charges, including charges related to child exploitation. During the execution of a search warrant on that individual's computer, the agents determined that he had recently been in e-mail and instant message contact with Sandra Batte in St. Louis County, Missouri. In a December 9, 2005 interview, Batte advised FBI agents that the male individual had previously sent her images of child pornography via the internet. On December 12, 2005, a federal search warrant was executed on her home computer.

A subsequent examination found images of minors under the age of twelve engaged in sexually explicit conduct stored within the seized computer. Batte, 60, 14400 block of White Pine Ridge, Chesterfield, pled guilty to one felony count of possession of child pornography. She appeared before United States District Judge Jean C. Hamilton.

Batte now faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. Sentencing has been set for April 27, 2007.

This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In February 2006, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov/. Hanaway commended the work on the case by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Regional Computer Crimes Education and Enforcement Group, and Assistant United States Attorney Hal Goldsmith, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. ###

Breast Cancer.

It's amazing to me the snakes that latch on to these charities and just live off of them.

I don't know about you, but I found the first 3-4 paragraphs of this post impossible to read.

I admit to having a few beers, but I still can't make sense of those sentences........

It wasn't all that long ago that we had Freepers that defended the possession of child pornography as a civil liberty.

During the execution of a search warrant on that individual's computer, the agents determined that he had recently been in e-mail and instant message contact with Sandra Batte… In a December 9, 2005 interview, Batte advised FBI agents that the male individual had previously sent her images of child pornography via the internet. On December 12, 2005, a federal search warrant was executed on her home computer.

Wow! Wait a minute! Do I understand this correctly or am I missing something? Is there more to this story?

So some guy was sending Ms. Batte emails and instant messages and had sent her sent her images of child pornography via the internet. Does that mean actual pictures or a link or just embedded cookies related to some other link he sent her? Was she asking him to send her this? Did she go on to distribute the images to others? The story doesn't say.

So she tells the FBI that he sent her this and the FBI gets a search warrant on her computer and now she’s doing time? For what? What was her involvement except for being a recipient of perhaps unwanted and unwelcome emails?

So does that mean if some creep sends me something that I didn’t ask for and wanted no parts of, the FBI can later after doing a search on said creep's computer, find the creep sent me an email once and I now can get arrested?

You know even if you delete an email or click on a link and delete it, there’s still a trail left.

That’s it. Good bye Free Republic. I’m only corresponding through post cards from now on. Oh no wait. Big Brother can read my snail mail too. If they claim I'm a terrorist or child pornographer, I bet they don't even need a warrent.

It wasn't that long ago, maybe 5 or 6 years ago, that Demidolt (Demidog) and others presented a perversion of a Libertian view that suggested that possession of child pornography in private settings did not constitute a crime and was a expression of civil liberty. Do a poster search for his screen name, never mind, banned quite some time ago.

indeed, that is the problem with some of these cases. look at the details you highlight - someone sent her emails with child porn, even if she deletes them, even if she has a junk mail filter that deletes them automatically, they are still on her computer. so the FBI seizes it, finds it, its impossible to prove your innocence, so she pleads guilty.

recall the case of the substitute teacher in Connecticut facing 40 years for malware pop up porn ads that appeared on the classroom computer.

Clinically, it is just very very unusual for a woman to be interested in child porn. What an odd situation.

Here is the article by Bill O'Rielly:

In the summer of 2003, Operator Predator was launched by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agency. The investigation has targeted individuals who make and consume child pornography worldwide. Because much of this stuff is manufactured overseas and shipped to America, ICE agents took the lead in tracking down the bad guys in the USA.

In case you don't know, child pornography features children from infants on up being raped in a variety of ways by adults. It is expensive to purchase and, because of the Internet, the distribution of this evil material has become easy. Have a credit card, you can get it.

According to ICE agents, one of those who used a credit card to purchase child porn is attorney Charles Rust-Tierney, the former president of the American Civil Liberties Union in Virginia. Tierney was arrested and charged on Feb. 23.

Tierney apparently told the feds that he paid for the child porn using a Paypal account and then downloaded images of prepubescent girls being violently raped onto CD-Rom disks, which the authorities seized in his home.

One of the images Tierney was in possession of showed a little girl tied up and screaming while being violently raped.

This shocking case received little media attention even though Tierney, 51, is a well-known figure in the Washington, D.C. area and strenuously fought against limits on Internet access in libraries.

On Dec. 1, 1998, Tierney issued this statement: "Recognizing that individuals will continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library, the default should be maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet."

And included among those "resources" is child porn. The ACLU in Virginia successfully blocked any filtering of objectionable material in Loudon County libraries.

This is off-thechart disturbing, and you would think the media would be all over it. When Ted Haggard was scandalized by a male prostitute in Colorado, the media relentlessly hammered the preacher. He deserved much of it, but the coverage was everywhere.

How many of you have heard of Charles Rust-Tierney?

The only major liberal news organization to cover the story was The Washington Post. It ran a small mention of it in the second section of the paper, essentially burying the situation. The New York Times ignored the story entirely. So did NBC News, CBS News and CNN. ABC News mentioned it on its website.

There is no question that an ACLU big shot who fought against library filters being busted on federal child porn charges is a big story. So what's going on?

The truth is the committed left press in America is no longer interested in reporting the news. Anything that hinders a favorable view of the far left will be ignored; anything that advances liberal causes will be celebrated. News reporting today is largely about ideology and shaping the culture, not about informing the public.

This is dangerous. The Constitution gives the news media a wide variety of protections because the Founding Fathers

wanted information to

get to the folks. So answer me this: Did the media do its job covering the case of Charles Rust-Tierney?

It did not. Another example of the downward spiral of American journalism. The New York Times masthead says "All the News That's Fit to Print."

Sure.
