Scientists Receive Death Threats For Questioning Man’s Role in Global Warming
NewsBusters.org ^ | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 03/11/2007 2:05:26 PM PDT by SandRat

Think those advancing anthropogenic global warming theories are serious about their views? Well, an article from Sunday’s Telegraph should scare every person around the world about the zealotry and danger surrounding this issue (emphasis mine throughout):

Scientists who questioned mankind's impact on climate change have received death threats and claim to have been shunned by the scientific community.

They say the debate on global warming has been "hijacked" by a powerful alliance of politicians, scientists and environmentalists who have stifled all questioning about the true environmental impact of carbon dioxide emissions.

Shocked? Astounded? That’s only the beginning:

Timothy Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg in Canada, has received five deaths threats by email since raising concerns about the degree to which man was affecting climate change.

One of the emails warned that, if he continued to speak out, he would not live to see further global warming.

Why is this happening in Ball’s view:

"Western governments have pumped billions of dollars into careers and institutes and they feel threatened," said the professor.

"I can tolerate being called a sceptic because all scientists should be sceptics, but then they started calling us deniers, with all the connotations of the Holocaust. That is an obscenity. It has got really nasty and personal."

Other well-known skeptics agreed with Ball:

Richard Lindzen, the professor of Atmospheric Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology - who also appeared on the documentary - recently claimed: "Scientists who dissent from the alarmism have seen their funds disappear, their work derided, and themselves labelled as industry stooges."

"Consequently, lies about climate change gain credence even when they fly in the face of the science."

Dr Myles Allen, from Oxford University, agreed. He said: "The Green movement has hijacked the issue of climate change. It is ludicrous to suggest the only way to deal with the problem is to start micro managing everyone, which is what environmentalists seem to want to do."

Nigel Calder, a former editor of New Scientist, said: "Governments are trying to achieve unanimity by stifling any scientist who disagrees. Einstein could not have got funding under the present system."

It’s getting scary out there, folks.

Einstein could not have got funding under the present system.

Did Einstein get funding under the old system?

IIRC they dumped them and made them remove all their clothes and shoes then left them naked as jay-birds in the middle of the Amazon.

I wonder where the Mafia stands on this issue.

The death threats tend to answer your issue. Even if the old Mafia is busy with drugs, the new Green movement has become a new Mafia.

Their tactics indicate that.

Nothing new, when a lie is worth Billions of dollars, murder's move in.

I work with college educated professionals that come up with similar things. Some of these people are solid church going, highly ethical and moral but believe in some of the most outrageous conspiracy theories. The most comoon conspiracy is that Bush went to war for oil. I guess that's why our gasoline cost a dollar more a gallon than at the start of the war. I have no patience for them and stop the conversation and move on.

Does an ex-politician like Al Gore, as he flies around the world doing his PowerPoint show, collecting his Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth, lapping up praise from an uncritical media and kidding about whether he'll run for president, strike you as someone who truly believes we're facing Armageddon?

"People like Al Gore jet about the earth, living from mansion to mansion and say that they want to drastically lower the living standards for most people on the earth. Then, the so called peoples's people, who talk about "eqality" the most, think this is just fine."

Carbon Offsets: Al Gore's Big Easy
INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY ^ | 3/6/07

Posted on 03/06/2007 8:20:32 PM PST by Winged Hussar

Gore's carbon footprint may be the size of Godzilla's, but he eases his conscience with "carbon offsets." He buys them from himself. And every time someone else buys them, Big Al gets richer.

...Speaking of carbon offsets and shell games, guess where Gore buys his carbon offsets? Well, he buys them from a firm call Generation Investment Management LLP, a tax-exempt U.S. 501(c)3 corporation. The chairman and co-founder is Al Gore. In other words, he buys his carbon offsets from himself. Others who buy these offset are really buying stock in Gore's growing business. You, too, can green up his portfolio, if not Earth itself.

Out of curiosity, I wonder if Einstein ever in his life had government funding for his work.

That's not the problem, it's the ice that sits on land. What happens when an ice cube on the kitchen counter melts?

The TAR concludes that there will probably be about a 19" rise over the rest of the century...and that there might be a drop of as much as 7" - which is about as likely as a rise of about 36". Not that I consider the report remotely definitive, but rather it is a good example of the pro-AGW sides actual predictions. The idea that it'll be up to anyones grandkids necks in a location that isn't already in wading depth is silly - even by Pro-AGW standards.

This country is so ignorant, as to be beyond belief. If it were true that CO2 was the culprit, then temperatures should have increased faster in the last few years instead of incrementally over 30 or 40 years.

China and India are and will be putting enough CO2 into the atmosphere to make anything we do totally insignificant. Last I heard, China's chief source of energy and heat was dirty coal burning.
