Poland and Solidarnosc' started the downfall of the Soviet Union.

There was a moral authority available for the Poles in the form of Pope John Paul II. Unfortunately, there appears to be no moral equivalent or moral authority in Islam to support a popular democracy movement in Iran or anywhere else in the Islam world.

If you want a good analysis on the situation in Iran, I recommend Ed Luttwak's, "Three reasons not to bomb Iran - yet"

The worst thing we could do now is to make a premptive, overt attack against Iran. The Iranian regime is intentionally trying to create an external threat to deflect the widespread domestic opposition to the regime. Ahmadinejad's outrageous statements also help raise the price of oil, which helps the flagging Iranian economy.

I only watched Fox News Sunday.

Fred Thompson hit the ball out of the park. His answers were direct and congruent with his previous positions and where he didn't know, he so indicated. One could scarcely ask for more.

I do note two things.

First, he seemed tense and reluctant for a professional actor; I imagine because he wasn't acting. Still, he was not altogether his old, genial self.

Second, perhaps it is his lack of hair but he seemed "unhealthy" in some ineffable way. Practicing medicine for 40+ years sometimes makes for good hunches but also equally so for bad ones. I am comparing him to my last TV experience with him which must be several years ago.

I wouldn't say anything about this but does anyone know anything about his recent health history?

As far as pardoning Libby, I agree with Krstol. This simply must be done and done quickly. When your opponents are gamey and playing "gotcha" games sometimes it is best to give them a real reason to say "gotcha." In this case, pardoning Libby would focus a minor issue to several weeks. Of course, we would need Libby to deny up and down that he obstructed justice, etc, etc.

Michael Duffy is talking about how the whole military is broken and stressed at every level, including recruiting.

Guess someone better update Mikes propaganda. He is only about 3 years out of date. http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,122085,00.html Recruiting Numbers Exceed Goals

Most Iranians don't want the Shah's son in power. Khomeini hijacked the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

Reportedly, the wounds to the 27-year-old captain were not "life threatening."

Thank God.

The entire UN was in on the scam. The Oil for Food program was a cash cow for the UN, which received a percentage of every transaction in the form of administrative fees.

The US also winked at Iraqi oil sales to Turkey and Jordan, which were outside the Oil for Food program.

Exactly. I was part of that military effort to enforce the NFZ and believe me, it was a war zone. Due to the skill of our pilots, aviators, crews and groundsmen not one was lost but that was only ever a missile launch away.

Saddam had WMD. He was only waiting for the sanctions to be lifted to go back to full bore production.

How easily folks forget things.

Your post seems to indicate a pardon for Libby tomorrow (versus December 2008) would be a bad thing.

Looks like FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn.; Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. is the only thing worth viewing. Thompson could be good and Waters should supply some humor...

Muslims are also anti-gay far worse than any Christian and so anti-women that I think no other organization could come closer to being so.

Yet the libs are encouraging them?

Can you see Thompson and Waters .. side by side .. in the green room? Oh, I'd love to see a picture of that.

18 wheeler next to a Mini Cooper

First, Fred would cause Maxine a stroke by being unfailingly polite, while she would likely be frothing at the mouth.

Second, though I like your analogy, the Mini is too classy a car and the 18 wheeler too brutish for my take on these two.  Think, instead, a Clydesdale next to a wharf rat.
