To: Alas Babylon!
I only watched Fox News Sunday.

Fred Thompson hit the ball out of the park. His answers were direct and congruent with his previous positions and where he didn't know, he so indicated. One could scarcely ask for more.

I do note two things.

First, he seemed tense and reluctant for a professional actor; I imagine because he wasn't acting. Still, he was not altogether his old, genial self.

Second, perhaps it is his lack of hair but he seemed "unhealthy" in some ineffable way. Practicing medicine for 40+ years sometimes makes for good hunches but also equally so for bad ones. I am comparing him to my last TV experience with him which must be several years ago.

I wouldn't say anything about this but does anyone know anything about his recent health history?

As far as pardoning Libby, I agree with Krstol. This simply must be done and done quickly. When your opponents are gamey and playing "gotcha" games sometimes it is best to give them a real reason to say "gotcha." In this case, pardoning Libby would focus a minor issue to several weeks. Of course, we would need Libby to deny up and down that he obstructed justice, etc, etc.

Sorry that you got the impression that Fred is not totally healthy. Maybe he needed the Law and Order makeup crew for his appearance.

I really, really would like for Fred to run and be the perfect candidate. What a contrast with Hillary or Bama he would be!

My one caveat is that he let the old spaceman John Glenn kinda run over him in those hearings he was chairman of.

He looked like he was so disgusted by the nonsense flowing from Glenn and some others, he just couldn't take it. I wonder if that's why he opted out of the Senate after that.

I understand his disgust and I feel his pain, but he will have to be strong and put up with it if he is President.

Look at what Bush has had to put up with and retained his focus, goals and even his affability.

That being said, I want Fred almost as much as Ken wants Laurie.

As far as Fred Thompson's looking sick, I noticed too that he looked washed out, pale. But so did Wallace and Kristol and what's her name. The lighting was overdone, imho.
