Democratic strategist Bob Beckel admitted, in an interview on Fox News, that Fred Thompson for president would be their worst nightmare. Sounds good to me!

Don't think so, Fred Thompson probably already has seen internal polling of his own, and I think he would take over and lead over G, and M by a good, 20 points.

Rudy might possibly be a VP, (but he probably will not agree to that) but he won't be necessary for a win.

Neither Rudy, or McCains following is that strong.

I don't see any of the other "conservative" candidates getting nominated or elected this time around, although we'd better start grooming some of them for the future.

Keep your eye on Bobby Jindal. He's going to win the gubernatorial race in October here in Louisiana, he's a true conservative, and he's smart as a whip. Plus, he's still in his 30's. Look for him to go big time in 2016.

Among his interest group ratings, FDT earned...only 11% from the ACLU, 85% from the American Conservative Union, 86% from the Center for Security Policy...

This disturbing profile almost certainly qualifies him as a RINO and a 'socialist' by some. :-)

Fred's back covering comments:
"We should realize that not only is Minority cooperation in investigations and hearings desirable and appropriate, it is actually an absolute necessity if the Committee is going to carry out its obligations to the American people."
may correspond to how he thinks things work in Washington. For counterarguments watch all the forthcoming hearings in the Pelosi-Reid Congress. Does John Conyers think he'll need minority cooperation? Fred's side had a much greater margin than Reid has now. My recollection was that his leadership was very weak and that he accomplished much less than Freepers at that time thought was possible. He was the Chairman. If he couldn't control his majority on the Committee and use them to control his party's majority in the Senate, when investigating what many here thought was treason, why should I trust him to out duel Democrats on other issues? Their only real defense against Fred then would have been for Glenn and Lieberman to threaten to filibuster actions that required support of the full Senate and for Clinton and Gore to stonewall any subpoenas. As the allegedly best media connected Republican, Fred should have been in a great position to apply public pressure to any such obstructions. He failed his audition.

that's what I thought, why would he say that if not just to confuse the field. He wants him to run.

Exactly so and it is surprising that none of Thompson's supporters here, remember anything pertinent about him and call posters who do and post these facts, names.

He is being pushed by Howard Baker who used his power to dam the Little T

TVA condemned property for Lake Tellico. Later, vast flat un flooded lakeside tracts were sold to developers for condos. Guess whose law firm was involved?

Baker is tainted.

For the moment, I'm backing Romney, but if Fred joins the race, he's got my vote. He'll pretty much destroy Mitt's candidacy because he'll draw voters from the South and Midwest that Romney needs, and he'll put a big hurt on the Rudy bandwagon.

As for McCain, my thinking is, his own staff is telling him he won't get the nomination, so Fred jumping in allows him to bow out of the race with a bit of grace.

In the article it says Baker is the one who is doing it not Thompson. Baker is the one who wants Thompson to run and started this whole thing. If Thompson runs he will get sued by NBC who have already stated they will do that.

I'd tell NBC to sue my ass off. When I'm elected, see what if any contract GE gets or if NBC even gets remote access to the White House!

I like Jindal and his chances in October. Fixing Louisiana would make for a great resume and after Katrina the rest of the nation would notice the difference! However, his task is as large as Rudy's was in NYC. I wish him well, but I'm not sure success is possible, at least not within just 8 years. Whether the New Orleans exodus and public disgust will weaken the entrenched corruption enough to permit the necessary changes to reach his desk remains to be seen.

Unless you are a retread, you weren't here back then, when a whole LOT of what was actually pulled by Livingstone came out into the open. I was here and read ALL of the articles about it and therefore know what I'm talking about. :-)

I understand your point. BUT the MSM does not treat both parties equally.

Clinton...he's just a guy...extramarital sex - no problem

Newt...(or any Republican): horrors. Hitler reconstituted. You get my drift?
