BAGHDAD (AP) -- An Iraqi military spokesman says the leader of the al-Qaida-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, has been captured in a raid west of Baghdad. U.S. officials had no confirmation

Well there is the comment at post #147 by Harwood,...and with the heavy Muslim presence of Sunni muslims in London, and other items I have observed,...I think the BBC has a much better access into non western sources for confirmation of Arabic items....

I don't think they ever did put up a news item on the supposed capture of Bagdadi up north last week..

So it seems to me that they are doing more than just recycling what the AP reports.,...

It's good that the Iraqi army is announcing and taking credit for this capture. (We had a big hand in it to be sure, but it's still good)

Thats the problem there . They all look the same , no uniforms , no flags , no lines of battle. The guy who seeld you fruit in the morning may be the guy who blows you up at night. The enemy live with ( and sometimes IS ) the general population. We should have fouhght ALL OUT or gotten out , one or the other.

Al-Jazeera reports: Iraqi officials said on Saturday that investigations had proven the man captured in a raid on Friday was not al-Baghdadi but was "a senior al-Qaeda leader".

"We captured a figure who was a senior al-Qaeda member and we suspected that he was Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, but after initial investigations it was proven it was not Abu Omar al-Baghdadi. But he was a senior al-Qaeda leader," said Qassim al-Moussawi, spokesman of the Baghdad security operation.

Yeah, but al-Baghdid isn't al-Baghdadi either, so that really doesn't mean much. The important part is that they captured a senior member of al Qaeda....we'll know all dozen of his names soon no doubt.
