Reuters Counts 9/11 Hijackers as 9/11 Victims
Posted by Ken Shepherd on March 8, 2007 - 18:15.
From the March 8 edition of James Taranto's Best of the Web. (H/t: Nathan Burchfiel):
Another Man's Victim?
Reuters has a cute little human interest story about funny people from Vermont holding "town meetings" where they call for President Bush's impeachment. What caught our eye was not the darling little Vermonters, though, but something in this paragraph:
Doug Dunbebin, who walked door-to-door collecting signatures to get the question onto the town meeting ballot, said there are still unanswered questions about September 11, 2001, when hijacked plane attacks killed 2,992 people at New York's World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
That number, 2,992, looked unfamiliar to us. We went back and looked at our December item on the Associated Press's bogus "grim milestone" (U.S. military deaths in Iraq surpassing total 9/11 deaths), and sure enough, the AP's 9/11 count was different: 2,973 to be exact.
What's the difference between 2,992 and 2,973? Nineteen. It seems Reuters is counting the terrorists--or should that be "freedom fighters"?--among the victims of 9/11.

So killed = victim. What dictionary are they using?

Shows the total moral bankruptcy of the liberal media.
I'm surprised these people have the discernment to make it through a single day without falling out a window or walking into traffic.
Either they are totally stupid or they just sympathize with evil.

Just shows how fundamentally corrupt Roto-Reuters is.

Just shows how fundamentally corrupt Roto-Reuters is. Do you think the terrorists weren't killed when those airplanes stuck the WTC, Pentagon, ground?
Are they still alive?

Be much better to be able to count Reuters as among those killed on account of 9/11.
I doubt if they share that value judgment, but that's because they're all punks.

According to Wikipedia:
There were 2,973 fatalities, not including the 19 hijackers: 246 on the four planes.

Ask Reuters, and they would probably tell you that their preference is to see it as 2973 murderers wantonly killing 19 victims, by getting in the way of the planes they hijacked.

Technically speaking, they were additional fatalities, not victims.
When a murderer ends up dead in the course of committing his crime, only the murdered are victims.
Shouldn't matter how hard the Scribes (and Pharisees) in the media try to water down the term, it still has a proper meaning.

Reuters said killed. They did not use the term, victims.
Do you contend the hijackers were not killed on 9/11?

No, but I will contend they weren't killed soon enough.
I read too many intervening posts to remember that "victim' wasn't in the Reuter's quote, but was used frequently afterward.
Lost track. Sorry.

No, they said "when hijacked plane attacks killed 2,992 people". Typically, one does not count the assailants in the total "killed".

It seems Reuters is counting the terrorists--or should that be "freedom fighters"?--among the victims of 9/11. Just like the Headlines, "Six killed in shooting at Utah mall" (Boston Herald) or "Six dead after Utah mall rampage"(USA Today), number six was of course the deranged Jihadi who had killed the other five.
Or when the Brady Bunch counts the gang bangers shot by police as victims of "gun violence".
