Some neuro-scientists see evidence that man is genetically hard-wired to be disposed to religious conviction. If this is so, it might explain why amongst even the French the most secular culture on Earth only 25 percent claim to be atheists, and a full 60 percent believe in a spiritual component to life. It might also explain why the environmental movement tends to veer toward a religious, rather than a scientific, sensibility.
This oft-observed aspect to environmentalism in general, and global warmingism in particular, has been shrewdly analyzed in a new book, "The Future of Everything: The Science of Prediction," by former University College London professor Dr. David Orrell. Among other things, Dr. Orrell focuses on the similarity between global warming advocates' powerful predictive urge and the inherent prophetic nature of the religious instinct.
While I suspect that most global warming alarmists would be offended if they were called pagan neo-animists, in fact, some leading religious scholars have written cogently on the point. For example, Graham Harvey, professor of religious studies at King Alfred's College, England, has written two approving books on the topic: "Contemporary Paganism: Listening People, Speaking Earth," (New York University Press) and "Animism: Respecting the Living World." (Columbia University Press).

I disagree. The global warming scare is about power, money and politics. Of course, the power-hungry have always known that to induce a religious-like fervor in the public is a great way to achieve their goals of domination.
The Goreacle and his pitiful flock are merely trying to create their own sense of religiosity around the "global warming" enviro-whacko cult. Yet, they are a parody of religion and a parody of themselves. They even have their own sale of "indulgences" (aka "carbon offset credits") with the Goreacle in position to profit enormously from such sales.
Good point...
More Machiavellian than anything...
Who was it that said, "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him?"
I think it's some of both: greed for power and money at the upper levels (UN, Gore, EU, Dems, etc..) and faux/new age religious fervor at the nutroots/treehugger level.
Allah Gore - the latest profit.
Nothing new under the sun. Nature worship, and idolatry go hand in hand. Old Testament is full of this nonsense.
As long as America is filled with idolatry and politicians who are above the law, we will have nothing but problems trying to tame the Middle East beasts.
That is why God MUST bring true revival to America through a anointed body of supernatural Christians, or we don't have a prayer.
Exodus 34:
8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.
9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O LORD, let my LORD, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.
10 And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.
11 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:
13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:
14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
15 Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;
Voltaire?
Sounds like an Eco-airline.
Electrically powered airplanes? LOL
Faith in anything is a VERY powerful thing.
bump
For some people that's what religion is about, too.
Romans 1:25
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creatorwho is forever praised. Amen.
"The Goreacle"
LOL! Love it!
You win the prize. Voltaire is correct.

As an small o objectivist (atheist), I say theres no doubt about it. It takes a lot of study, reflection and experience to maintain confidence in ones values and direction without a faith in God or in some social alternative. A good religions clearly a better choice than those social alternatives for most people in most circumstances.
