Exclusive: Warlord splits with Taliban (Gulbuddin Hekmatyar)
Associated Press (excerpt) ^ | March 8, 2007 | Zarar Khan

Excerpt -

KARACHI, Pakistan - Fugitive Afghan rebel leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar told The Associated Press his forces have ended cooperation with the Taliban and suggested that he was open to talks with embattled President Hamid Karzai.

In a video response to questions submitted by AP, Hekmatyar also recounted how U.S. forces nearly caught him on two occasions but he got away.

Hekmatyar, speaking in front of a plain white wall at an undisclosed location, indicated that his group contacted Taliban leaders some time in 2003 and agreed to wage a joint jihad, or holy war, against American troops.

"The jihad went into high gear but later it gradually went down as certain elements among the Taliban rejected the idea of a joint struggle against the aggressor," Hekmatyar said. He said his forces were now mounting only restricted operations, partly because of a lack of resources.

Sounds good.

But, as President Reagan used to say, "Trust but verify!"

I've been following the history of this guy for years, long before 9/11. He is absolutely untrustworthy. He must be shot on sight.

Let me see if I've got this right.

The Talibums are on the run, getting their worthless selves killed en masse whenever and wherever they are confronted by Nato

This "warlord" guy wants to break with the Talibums and make nice with Kharzai.

But, according to AP, Kharzai is the one who is "embattled".

AP = All Propaganda

Hekmatyar is the 'Terrell Owens' of Afghanistan. Perpetual free-agent. You don't know what he's going to say/do next or for which side he will play next year.

Hekmatyar was one of those supported heavily by the Pakistani ISI during the war with the Soviets. He is totally unreliable, and hates the USA. The sooner that he meets his end, the better. It is good news that he is not aligned with the Taliban any more.

That tells it all, send him to the slammer.

Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and his thugs (Hezb-e-Islami) have taken a tremendous beating over the past couple years - Make no mistake about this -

Hekmatyar is out for Mr. Hekmatyar first and foremost make no mistake...(while having a vested hatred for the United States in his core....which he pushes for whenever it proves benefical).

al Qeada spiltting with him (if even true and not simply smoke for leverge) is more due to the lack of control he has any longer.....along with al Qeadas new safety net established in the Pak border regions (which runs fully through the NWFP and the Waziristans).

It was (very likely) Hezb-e-Islami followers that led UBL out of Afghanistan on foot via Parachinar back in late 2001.

Killing him would be a huge plus....capturing him alive would be even better.....He's a talker....And al Qeada leadership know this...

This post says it all. Hekmatyar will be causing trouble until the last day he draws breath.
