Shooting Elephants in a Barrel [Ann Coulter]
Human Events ^ | March 7, 2007 | Ann Coulter

Posted on 03/07/2007 3:56:09 PM PST by kabar

Lewis Libby has now been found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice for lies that had absolutely no legal consequence.

It was not a crime to reveal Valerie Plame's name because she was not a covert agent. If it had been a crime, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald could have wrapped up his investigation with an indictment of the State Department's Richard Armitage on the first day of his investigation since it was Armitage who revealed her name and Fitzgerald knew it.

With no crime to investigate, Fitzgerald pursued a pointless investigation into nothing, getting a lot of White House officials to make statements under oath and hoping some of their recollections would end up conflicting with other witness recollections, so he could charge some Republican with "perjury" and enjoy the fawning media attention.

As a result, Libby is now a convicted felon for having a faulty memory of the person who first told him that Joe Wilson was a delusional boob who lied about his wife sending him to Niger.

This makes it official: It's illegal to be Republican.

Geez, I'm really glad we don't have to register party affiliation here in Virginia, </sarcasm>

After reading this, I believe more than ever that this nation is heading for a civil war. Except this time, it will probably be the conservatives who fire the first shots. Conservatives try to protest against abortion and in return, Dems use RICO statuetes against us. We vote in laws and the Dems use the courts to overturn it. We vote in our people and the Dems use recounts and voting fraud to undermine the election process. We go to court and the Dems stack juries against us. They are attempting to take away our property, our guns, our freedom of expression, our freedom of religion, our political voice, while at the same time they want to give criminals the right to vote, release child molesters in our neighborhoods, and bring terrorists into our prison system so that they can spread their venom. Eventually, this bubble is going to burst!

The administration allowed the legal process to take place. The fact that any jury in the DC area is full of BDS is, unfortunately, something that has to be dealt with. This administration is following the legal process. The dims/libs have taken over the process, and are doing things to THEIR benefit, not the benefit of the country (which they hate).

I wish the WH would use the bully pulpit more, but they do follow the law.

I love Ann Coulter. She is one who makes excellent points without having to be politically correct. I almost always agree with her. I love to see the MSM in histerics about her using the "F" word in reference to "two Americas" Edwards.

I have the answer: Register all terrorists and terrorist sympathizers... as Republicans. The dems will fall all over themselves looking for reasons to prosecute them.

In my cynical old age...I am even MORE convinced that Ms. Coulter's Edwards-Faggot comment was a calculated move.

Ann Coulter makes her living with words, spoken and written. Her every utterance is subject to scrutiny and discussion by her enemies in the MSM, who despise her for her success, and because she's a conservative, and because she's smarter and better looking than 95% of them. I believe she knew exactly what she was saying at CPAC and had a very good idea of the reaction she would get.

Ann's an entertainer and a polemicist, and I think that her conservatism is more of an act than a statement of genuine belief. Also, her cadre of FReeper "Internet boyfriends" are really annoying.

Golly, is there anything you don't know?

When you consider the hatred wrought over the 2000 election results, 9-11 was a godsend for the man.

-------------------------------------------------

3,000 dead Americans, a two front war, a recession and you call 9/11 a Godsend? That is way off the reservation, even for an uber liberal like you.

The Libby case is really a superb example of what you're talking about. Fitzfong was only appointed because Ashcroft panicked (possibly with Bush's connivance) and recused himself instead of standing strong, investigating the case, finding Plame wasn't a "covert" agent, and telling the whole world it was a frivolous political hit job put on by a couple of pathological liars.

Oh, come on. This whole Fitzfong fiasco belongs right at the feet of the administration and President Bush. He could have had a proper internal investigation done when the Plame charges were first made to determine if she was a legally covered "covert" agent and, on finding that she wasn't, sent his people out to denounce the whole thing as the illicit political hit job it was. Instead, he allowed Ashcroft to panic and recuse himself, leading to the whole squalid mess.

[.. Ashcroft ran the Justice Department. Why did he let some clintonoid stooge appoint a Democrat prosecutor with an agenda? Why didn't the President or a spokesman in the Justice Department point out that no crime had been committed, since Valerie Plame was not a covert agent and therefore the law in question did not apply? ..]

Exactly.. Fitzy and Sandy Burgular and much more lie at the feet of the Justice Department(a.k.a. George Bush)..

On George Bush's desk is a sign that says "the buck stops somewhere ELSE"..
With George laughing as his shoulders heave up and down..

I think Fitzgerald had some personal animus towards Libby. He didn't like the fact that Libby called Mark Rich to congratulate him on his pardon even though Libby was the VP's Chief of Staff. I think it was payback.

Libby was Mark Rich's attorney.

Also, this notion that the administration could have done something is absurd. The justice department, under the leadership of John Ashcroft, was compelled to investigate what could have been a crime ("could have" being the operative term) and Fitzpatrick was appointed the case. That's their job. That's his job. Nothing more, nothing less.

Turns out that thru the course of the investigation it was discovered that there was no outing, but during that investigation, Libby obstructed justice by lying about it. A crime. The end.

Now what in holy hell was Team Bush supposed to do about that in practical terms? Have Fitzpatrick's knees broken? Seriously, what is it you Bush bashers expected here?
